Customer Review: Great Keyboard, Great Value
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this keyboard (and mouse) from one of the Amazon Merchants. It was about $12 less than the new price quoted above (October 2008) including shipping. Unlike some other reviewers I have no complaints. I downloaded the latest software and the keyboard and mouse control panel (located as one of the System Preferences), and it worked just fine with my OS 10.4. It was easy to reassign the buttons on the mouse. I reset the two thumb buttons on the side to Apple-key '[ and Apple-key '] which are Back and Forward in Safari and other browsers.

To reset mouse buttons or keys on the keyboard, click on the Desktop, and in the Finder, pull down the ' menu, select SYSTEM PREFERENCES and on the bottom row labeled OTHER, select LOGITECH CONTROL CENTER.

Click on the picture of the mouse or keyboard. The CONFIGURE button is now active, and click it. Select the button or key you wish to reassign, and at the far right of that row, you'll see an up-arrow and a down-arrow. When you click either, you'll see a number of selections. You can even select an application to launch.

You can also adjust the scrolling speed and distance and acceleration using the standard KEYBOARD AND MOUSE control panel on the HARDWARE row of SYSTEM PREFERENCES. (I think it might be nice for Logitech to include these controls and F-Key assignments on a future version of their software.)

As this is a wireless keyboard and mouse, I was very concerned about the amount of battery drain. The keyboard uses two AAA and mouse uses 2 AA batteries. In 4 months of use, I've had to replace the two generic AA alkaline mouse batteries once but the keyboard is still running on the first pair. Make sure you always have a couple of spares of each, as there is no alternative way to use the keyboard and mouse with dead batteries. (That is, you can't convert them to a wired set.)

The feel of the keyboard and mouse is just right to my fingers. There is a very soft audible and tactile click when you use either. I call this "The Goldilocks Effect." It feels "just right."

This is an excellent improvement on the wired keyboard and mouse which come with iMac. I have no experience with the Apple wireless set.

If there were one feature I would ask Logitech to add, it would be some indicator that the CAPS LOCK were engaged. I understand why it is omitted to save battery life. It's the only feature I missed, and I don't miss it enough to complain.

Thanks for reading my very wordy review.

Customer Review: Looks Great and works Great with my MBP!!
Summary: 5 Stars

I read reviews of this item from different sites and I didn't encounter any of the problems others mentioned.

I'm using a 17" MacBook Pro with Intel Processor and it works great! (Used for 2 weeks only). I switched from a Apple wired Keyboard (that I don't love).

CONS:
- Cordless
- There are volume control buttons on the mouse. The mute/ volume up & down button comes very handy!! The mouse fits perfectly in my hands!
- Every button on the Keyboard and Mouse functions as they should on my mac.
- Sleek, Nice design. Love the Color. Matches my MacBook Pro.
- Have battery indicator.
- Works GREAT using only the tiny usb receiver. I connect the tiny usb receiver to a 7-port hub (using only USB power) and it works fine. The receiver is out of my sight.
- I like that the keyboard feels more like a laptop's keyboard.
- EASY PLUG & PLAY. Driver Installation was easy. I installed the latest driver from Logitech's website and eveything is easy and went smooth.
- NO Lagging & GREAT Connectivity- even after my MBP wakes up from sleeping mode or after I restart my computer.
- Plugs and Play on a WINDOWS VISTA PC too (no driver installation). But bear in mind that the special buttons on the keyboard (the Spotlight, iTunes, Volume up & down, Play, Home) won't work. The back & forward button on the mouse will work on a Windows Vista PC but NOT the Volume Control Buttons. It's ok because this set is meant to be for MACs.
- Can assign buttons on Mouse to do different things

PROS:
- not one of the most quiet keyboard
- Like anything white- keyboard & mouse may show dirt easily (but it's the color that makes this set looks so nice)

Other thoughts:
There aren't many cordless Keyboards / Mouse that are cordless, in white/silver color, looks good and works great. Was considering to get Apple's Mighty Mouse but I like this one better as there is volume control and I know that the scroll with work with no problems. If you don't like Apple's keyboard, give this one a try! I've only used the keyboard and mouse for 2 weeks so I don't know how long batteries can last.

Customer Review: V. Nice Mac Mouse/Keyboard Combo under Leopard
Summary: 5 Stars

I have two Logitech S 530 Laser Cordless Keyboard/Mouse units, the older (nearly 2 years) on an iMac at work and the newer (going on two months) on a first gen MacBook at home. The original software supplied had a few bugs, but the latest software available online at Logitech works very well with Leopard with these two Macs.

The mouse and keyboard look nice (glossy white with silver accents) match old/new iMacs well as well as the white MacBook. They also match up with a 3+ year old Creative iTrigue 3450 2+1 speaker set that I have that is also glossy white and silver - like it was all planned!

The keyboard has useful extra keys, decent configurability and more shortcuts than I need. The keyboard is very flat, with keys that remind me of my old PowerBook G4, not like the new Apple keyboard which I think is a little too short in key stroke length for my best typing.

The mouse works equally well, I set it up to zoom-in, zoom-out with the thumb left side buttons (works great in many mac apps), sideways scroll by tilting left/right the scroll wheel and use the mute button quite a lot plus the normal left/scroll/right mouse buttons. Doing these setups are trivial and most things are reasonably setup by default in the driver software (at least with the current Leopard drivers).

Battery life with me is very good. I keep the USB radio receiver dongle quite close to the mouse and keyboard so the signal might be running optimally low, but as I don't burn up many batteries, I haven't had any reason to verify if that's actually happening.

I didn't see any differences between the earlier and later S530 Laser products, so it's not exactly a new product, and no doubt will get replaced one day. But if you like the keyboard feel and shape of the mouse, give it a try. It's now a lot cheaper on Amazon than the original version I bought at CompUSA (way before massive shrinking hit them).

Customer Review: Great keyboard
Summary: 5 Stars

I love this keyboard, so don't take what I'm writing as negative criticism: just some things that the purchaser needs to know.

(1) Negative-ish things about keys. There is no light or indicator on the caps lock key. I never notice when the light is lit on these things, so there's no difference to me and it probably saves some battery power, but if you depend on the light to let you know, be aware of this.
The command key is smaller than it is on most Macintosh keyboards. It takes about a minute to get used to it.
The home-end-page up-etc. keys are laid out oddly. (But see below.)

(2) Good things about keys. The help key is moved up into the function key row and the "backspace" and "delete" keys are really large (Hurray! no more getting help when all you wanted to do was erase a character).
The escape key is well up and away from the regular keys. This takes a bit of getting used to, but once it becomes automatic, it's wonderful. On the new platinum-flat keyboards, the escape key is way too cozy with the screen-dim-bright key. Those of you who do a lot of Unix/Terminal typing will appreciate the problem.
For those of us who are more accustomed to typewriter-like response, this keyboard is a blessing. It's in between a Selectric-like feeling and a notebook-style feeling. I like the feel and yet don't have a problem moving over to my notebook, as I had with some of the older keyboards. (Except that the wrist rest is enough like a notebook that I occasionally reach down with my thumb to move the mouse.)
Installation on a G5 Mac was a breeze. Others have spoken about Intel Macs. The control over the keyboard and mouse that the software affords seems quite detailed. I kept most of the default settings, which have so far been just about right for my use.

Customer Review: Finally, I'm 100% satisfied with my move to Mac
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought my first Mac (an iMac, all very swish), about two weeks ago. I got over most of the initial oddities of the Mac and came to appreciate very much its overall strength and superior quality to any PC I'd ever owned (and I always owned good ones). The only lasting problem I had was the horribly annoying (for PC users) keyboard and mouse (I had the Mac bluetooth/wireless mighty mouse and keyboard . . . high end stuff for Mac). Traditional Mac users who've never used anything else, simply don't understand the ease of use which comes with most higher end PC mouse/keyboard combos. Though I tried very hard, I found the Mac keyboard and especially the mighty mouse to be simply too focussed on form and not enough on function. In particular, for the mouse, the right click function is just not good enough for ex-PC users, it's really not good enough for Mac in general, given the rest of their quality, but many avid Mac people will have difficulty in accepting this. I don't think it's a matter of preference, either, it's really just a matter of ergonomics and basic physics. Enter, then, the Logitech s530, the product that enabled me to finally find happiness and satisfaction with my iMac. Above all, it works really, really well in terms of system function, which is extended with lots of useful features (Mac addicts will say "I don't know why anyone would use these features, why not just learn six thousand different key combinations instead?!" to which I reply: why not use a single button with a nice little icon on it?!), and very very nice in terms of ergonomics. I bought the bluetooth mac mouse/keyboard with my iMac. I shouldn't have wasted the money. I should have bought this product FIRST and just chucked whatever combo came standard. We live and learn, but I hope mine helps yours.
