Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Logitech Cordless Desktop S 530 Laser for Mac ( 967664-0403 )Customer Review: I love it! Don't listen to the negative reviewers. YOU WILL LOVE IT. Summary: 5 Stars
Yesterday was my first full day with this keyboard. I purchased it without reading the reviews here on Amazon, and I happened to read some of them while I was waiting for it to arrive, and I kind of got buyers remorse after reading all the whiners reviews.
Well, I have never been happier with a wireless setup! If the mouse and keyboard were actually wired, I would still give it 5 stars! The fact that it is wireless makes it just that much sweeter.
I have a brand new MacBook Intel, and I downloaded and installed the drivers just to be on the safe side since Leopard was released since this set had been released.
The install was a snap, and configuring the buttons is easy as hell. I don't know why people are bitching that it is hard to configure, because it is as simple as it can be.
The mouse can have every button programmed (left-click, r-click, scrollwheel up, sw down, sw push down, 3 volume buttons, 2 navigation buttons). That makes for 10 input options! I left my volume buttons, l & r mouse buttons, and the scroll wheel alone. After toying with a few different configurations, I settled with configuring the "forward" button to be "command-T", which is a common keyboard shortcut I normally use in firefox to open a new tab... the "back" button on the mouse I configured to be "command-H" so I can hide any program with a twitch of my thumb.
The keyboard has a bunch of programmable buttons that can do anything from open applications to launch a website in your default browser.
Keyboard responsiveness is awesome, the mouse tracking sensitivity and scroll wheel speed are configurable, and even though the keyboard is flat, it is very comfortable to type on.
The keys are a bit noisier than I would have designed, but to be honest I find it actually an advantage because I am a college student and my roommates can hear me typing so they know I am working and not to be bothered. If I am typing late at night and I don't want my keystrokes to be so loud I just type on my MacBook keyboard.
All-in-all this is one AWESOME setup, and when it first debuted it was like $70-$80, but I got mine used on Amazon for like $35. But, the truth is, now that I have used it, I would have paid $70 for it new! It really is a nice boost to my productivity being able to navigate around so quickly now.
It does have a little USB receiver that must be plugged in to your hub or port, but to me that is a plus over bluetooth. With bluetooth, my experiences have been that sometimes it takes awhile to connect. This pairs instantly! Also, I have password protection to come out of the screen saver or sleep mode, and the mouse and keyboard work the whole time even before I have entered the right password.
Buy it, you'll be glad you did. This keyboard rocks.
