I was extremely hesitant to buy this because of the negative reviews , in particular, the rubber grips on the analog sticks. After feeling these grips on my fingers, I can understand how they could wear out with heavy gameplay, but I usually play not more than an hour or two a day. I must say that for the price, if my grips wear out i'd be pissed as hell. The controller feels really good in my hands, it might be heavy for some but i didnt mind that at all. The only drawback I have noticed is the start and the back button are placed way out of reach, but during a game I hardly use them anyways, however the black and white button are much more reachable than in the other control, making it a lot easier to hit combos and special moves. The rubber grips on the analog sticks are very comfortable but they feel flimsy. There is no lag whatsoever , you would not be able to differentiate the difference between this controller and the standard one. Most people might find the price ($60 US or $90 Canadian) a real hindrance, but my place looks so much better without wires and chics really dig it. Overall, I'd recommend this controller to anyone, I am very satisfied so far. I would have given this 5 stars if the price were a bit better.
Amendment: ok, its now Jan 2005, about 4 months into owning this thing, the right analog stick for some reason keeps sliding down, which makes presicion aiming and special moves very difficult at the least...luckily i got a one year warranty (I paid a few extra at EB games for this) so they'll replace it with the newer model. My suggestion is that you dont get this online...get it from a store and purchase the extended warranty, trust me...it'll save you both time and money.
Customer Review: Great battery performance and no lag, but... Summary: 4 Stars
This controller was the first third-party controller I've ever purchased so maybe I'm not familar with life expectancy of these products. I bought it about one year ago using an employee discount, and it was very impressive initially. The battery life is around 50+ hour with energizer or duracell (that's with twin rumble motors going full speed the whole time). As I said there is no lag at all, and if you experience lag then your controller is probably either defective or hitting some interference. Though this controller is heavy (four AA batteries) the ergonomics make it fairly comfortable; however, the plastic "bulges" around both trigger put too much pressure on my middle fingers after a few hours. Taking regular breaks will usually solve comfort problems. The biggest complaint I have about my controller is that the thumbsticks have worn out. I put 400+ hours on this thing so maybe it's supposed to wear out, but for $70.00 it shouldn't. After the first 100 hours or so, the left thumbstick would stick to the right. This means that even when I'm not touching the thumbstick, the character on screen would be slowly walking to the right. Now the right thumbstick fails to register when I move it to the right softly--I have to really ram it--and the left thumbstick sometimes fails to register a left command. Both thumbstick have serious play or "wobble" in them. Maybe the controller was only supposed last a few hundred hours, but that seems like a short time to me.
Customer Review: This is a good controller Summary: 4 Stars
I previously owned the Lynx Mad Catz (3 different ones acutally). The problem with the Lynx model was the thumbstick controllers would lose accuracy after several months of use. For instance, I would push the thumbstick to the limit and the game would react is if the thumbstick was moved only a small amount from the center. One of my games has a controller callibration screen where you can see the signal being sent from the controller thumsticks. Using this screen I could see the Lynx controller was very inconistent. I've had my logitech controller for about 4 months and it is still working flawlessly. On my callibration screen, it is the most accurate controller compared to the Lynx and the Microsoft s. I was worried that the logitech thumbsticks would not be easy to use due to the shape. It turns out that the rubber used on the thumbsticks gives your thumb a good grip and there is no issue with the shape. The triggers are a little too sensitive. They will sometimes fire when they are touched accidentally.
