I've never tried any of the fancy noise cancelling headphones, so i dont know how they would stack up against some $300 sets, but for $30+ the sound quality going both ways is great. as for reliability, i only broke my last set after smashing it very hard into the ground... twice.
Ps. with windows 2k and possibly xp, since its USB, and your computer would ID it, you have to plug it in before starting whatever applications you want to use it with. and if you wanted to go back to the co-ax connections, you'd have to restart the apps after you unplugged it.

After reading some reviews by other users, I decided to go with the Logitech ClearChat Comfort USB Headset, which I am really pleased with the purchase.
It is truely plug-and-play, instantly recognized by Windows XP and work right out of the bubble pack.
This headset is sturdy and the quality is above-average. There is no static when using Skype.
I have been using it for multimedia as well, work just like a traditional headset, the sound quality is clear and dynamic.

I HAVE PURCHASED SEVERAL HEADSETS, BEFORE THIS ONE. I USE THE HEADSET WITH SKYPE. THE OTHERS I TRIED ALL HAD THE SAME PROBLEM, THE PERSON I WOULD CALL SAID IT SOUNDED LIKE I WAS TALKING IN A TUNNEL.
I JUST PLUGED THE UNIT IN, THE COMPUTER FOUND THE DEVICE, WENT TO SKYPE AND OPTIONS, SKYPE FOUND THE DEVICE, SET TO AUTO AND MADE MY CALL. WORKED THE FIRST TIME. I HAVE HAD THE UNIT NOW FOR SEVERAL MONTHS, I BOUGHT ONE FOR MY SON AND MY WIFE.

I own at least 7 different mics and headphones and these are the best by far. They are comfortable and eliminate almost all ambient noise (traffic, dogs barking, noisy neighbors). Very comfortable and the volume control works well. The only issue is that the design makes it hard not to scrape the USB wire against your clothes, creating scratching noises in the recording. Make sure to use the mic clip and try not to move around too much and you'll be fine.
