Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Logitech ClearChat Comfort/USB Headset H390 (Black)Customer Review: Comfortable headset vexed by Vista device switching issues Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this with a Logitech QuickCam Pro 9000 (Black) for Skype communications.
It installed on my HP computer with Vista flawlessly and works great. I wear a one ear piece headset for regular phone calls but like the ClearChat's two ear pieces with soft foam even better - it blocks outside noise making it easier to hear the person I'm talking to.
The mic is easy to adjust and according to people listening to me sound quality is good.
The longest I've worn it is about 2 1/2 hours and it was comfortable.
The only problem is one that I can't blame on Logitech...but I'd sure be grateful for a solution. And I'd think it would worth their while to consider creating one:
It is ***very*** difficult to switch sound output devices between my Logitech USB headset and my BOSE (R) Companion 3G Multimedia Speaker System - Graphite / Silver, which is also a USB device.
You need a headset for Skype phone calls - I've tried to use speakers and my camera's mic a few times and always end up with feedback. But during the day I like to have speakers on to play videos or music clips.
Logically, you would think Vista would make it easy to toggle between different sound output devices...But it doesn't. OK, so then you'd think someone (like Logitech) would have created a simple software app to do the job...they haven't.
The only way I've found to switch involves unplugging the headset, rebooting the computer and plugging into a different USB (or not plugging it back in to use the speakers). Even this cumbersome process has its quirks and doesn't always work.
Naturally, this issue won't come up for someone who wants to use their headset 100% of the time. Bottom line is that it's a great headset for the money.
Customer Review: Best of Four Summary: 5 Stars
I've now purhased, all from Amazon, a total of 4 headsets, each of a different type, one of which was quite expensive [200$]: a blue tooth model, a folding usb model, a wireless usb model- and the Logitech model featured on this page.
I use a headset exclusively with a computer. Mostly Skype, but also occasional dictation, very occasional entertainment.
The BT: each time I restarted the computer, one needs locate the device again, then go to skype audio and re-assign the bluetooth feature. Not difficult, but an added chore when all one wants to do is make a quick skype phone call.
The folding model: good enough but delicate; of what use is portability if the thing breaks when carried?
The expensive model was wireless [USB]. Worked well enough, allowing one to walk quite a distance with the comfortable headset attached. This is quite liberating. However, the volume, even maxed out, was almost NEVER adequate: one must keep hand pressed to headset for the duration of the call [my hearing is not the same as a teenager's, but is still adequate].
Suffice to say that of all the headsets, and not inconsiderable expense- the Logitech on this page surpassed them all:
sturdy
immediate connection, true plug and play every time
great sound
reliable.
I use this for my base headset and portable model as well: just toss it in the brief. It's a solid build. Dictation: great sound quality. It has an 8' wire, so one can move about at least somewhat.
Soon I am traveling to a remote location, so I am now ordering a second one of these. Will carry two of these Logitech models [one for backup], rather than any of the other types. I rely on Skype for long distance phone calls, and with this USB model, at least I am sure I will have a headset that always works, and works well.
Customer Review: Can't live without them! Summary: 5 Stars
I was really hesitant about purchasing this set. I've had bad sets in the past that either had horrible output or horrible input.
I'm to the point where I can't even sit at my computer now without reaching for this set. The sound is so rich, better than any headset I've ever owned, and I've never had a problem with people hearing me through the mic. I've had my set for a year, and the ONLY reason I'm getting a new pair is because the cord is starting to short a bit--not much tho. Then again, to Logitech's defense, I've put this set through a lot. I wear them every day. I've fallen asleep in them, tangled them, dropped them. Still, they work just fine. But I would hate to wake up one day and find they've completely died on me, so I'm getting a backup set.
At this rate, I'm guessing I could get at least 18 months to 2 years of awesome use out of something I abuse on a daily basis. They're comfortable, too, and easy to adjust. The volume button on the cord is an absolute LIFESAVER.
(Note, this may not happen to everyone, but the set's volume functionality will cease to work from time to time. I tried disconnecting/reconnecting the set, but have come to find that only a computer reboot will work. To me, it's a tiny problem overall compared with the great quality of the set and it's easy to fix. This does not in any way interfere with my computer's volume functionality, however. So in all, it's just a matter of convenience. When the set's functionality goes out, I only whine because I'm so used to adjusting volume on the cord instead of directly on the computer. MINOR MINOR glitch.)
For the price, I don't think I could ever buy another brand. The set's worth every penny.
Customer Review: Perfect for podcasts, listening to music, internet telephone Summary: 5 Stars
I love the Logictech ClearChat headset. The ear pieces are nicely padded, with excellent noise canceling sound. The rigid microphone boom can be lowered or raised, according to whether you want to record/talk or just listen. They work equally well with both Windows and Mac OS X machines, with no driver software required. Because they connect using a USB source, they are strictly for computers, however, and cannot be used with stereo systems or iPods.
Within minutes of opening the box and plugging the connection into a USB slot, I was able to create a high-quality podcast on my Mac using Garage Band, part of the Apple iLife '08 suite. (To hear the sound quality of the podcast, email me or go to my Amazon Connect page on my profile.) My Mac immediately identified the headset as a possible input/output device, although I had to manually change the previous settings to use it. The mute button, located halfway down the cord, works instantly, without any clicks, although it's not always easy to tell whether the blinking red light means the mike is muted (it does) or whether it should be a steady red light.
The sound quality is excellent, although obviously the source and medium can limit the quality. Just as important, the headset is extremely comfortable; I was able to wear the ClearChat for hours without any fatigue or discomfort. The wire leading from the headset to the mute button seems like it might be fragile, so people who walk around while wearing their headsets might encounter problems. All in all, the Logitech ClearChat is an excellent value.
Customer Review: Great microphone for skype, but even better for Dragon Naturally Speaking medical Summary: 5 Stars
I've been using dragon for about 8 years now. Dragon recognition is very touchy to microphone issues. In particular, microphone sensitivity, background noise, etc. I recently discovered that the accuracy of dragon is sometimes hindered by high quality noise cancellation (active noise cancellation). Despite increased signal to noise ratio, the overall signal decreases with active noise cancellation, resulting in significant errors. I've used phillips speech mic (~ $300), buddy desktop mic, other logitech headsets, sennheiser headset mics (~ $150-200). So far, none of these compares with this simple headset mic in terms of voice recognition accuracy. It's not the most comfortable, and it certainly doesn't isolate like circumaural headsets. but, it makes up for it in really working well with Dragon. For skype calls, it works moderately well. When using 'skype out' (skype to land lines) quality is 8/10. When using skype to skype, it's 10/10. I have a feeling this is more related to VoIP protocol, rather than the mic itself. But, when making skype to skype calls, I can hear the most subtle sounds (including swallowing, etc). It's sort of odd at first, hearing someone's voice so clearly, but you get used to it. I would recommend this product to anyone who uses Dragon or skype. It's a lot cheaper than higher end headsets. For those into gaming/ hi fidelity, this is NOT the microphone/headset for you.
