If you are like us and use your notebook mostly at home on a desk instead of a big stationary computer, this speaker is fabulous. Others are correct when they write that this speaker is too large for carrying around with your traveling notebook unless extra good sound is more important than weight. It probably doesn't work well if your notebook is on your lap. Too large and does not attach to the laptop. The sound is much better than other notebook speakers unless you get the big stand alone speakers. (We don't like that type.) When we first turned it on we listened to music and said, "WOW! The volume is excellent and having the extra three USB outlets is very handy. This speaker does require electrical power rather than taking the power from a USB port. I'm sure that is why it has such good volume.Customer Review: Better than expected

I had read alot of reviews before buying this for my wife. It seemed that it would provide the best sound for the money. When we got it set up, I was really impressed with the sound. It provided good bass and clear treble. I had expected one or the other to suffer in such a low cost device. The convenience of having a built-in USB hub was a nice design feature. Not only do you not have to worry about having used up one of your ports, but you actually gain.
The sound was so good, we tried hooking it up to our HDTV. I'm not going to say it sounds like a home theater system, but it was quite noticeably better than the built-in TV speakers we were used to. We still hook it up to the TV when we watch movies.
This is definitely worth the price with better than expected quality of sound.

I bought this speaker for my wife after having bought her a new laptop whose only limitation was a very week internal speaker. I found this one at Amazon for $20 on sale. The only comments that were negative seemed to be from people expecting a $100 speaker. But, for a $20 speaker, it's all she wanted and more. It's got good bass and a clear sound. It fits easily behind her 15" laptop screen.
As others have said, this speaker is not the most easily portable, but, paraphrasing Barack Obama at an early primary debate with Hillary Clinton, "You're portable enough." She can take it in her bag to school, where she teaches, and take it home with little difficulty.
It makes her happy and does all she wants with all the quality her ears need to hear.

I bought this item in Costa Rica, completely unfamiliar with the product. One listen and I thought it had been priced wrong. This is an INCREDIBLE value. I have a MacBook, so I'm not real audio enhanced when using the standard built-ins; normally I use headphones, which is just one more wire, cumbersome, and a bit difficult to hear the telephone. This product has been a welcome addition. The sound is surprisingly rich on the low end, and not at all tinny or hollow on the high end. Having the USB docking for accessories such as an iPod (with charging capability) makes this an absolute no-brainer purchase. It is seriously worth twice the price. The only potential issue would be the size and weight, but if you mostly use this as a fixed add-on to your laptop, you will be thrilled.Customer Review: Great & convenient speakers

This is a great set of speakers, in terms of comfort, power, suitability and price. I bought this set for about $30 to go with my laptop as I moved away for school, and could not be more satisfied. They fit into almost any size laptop, standing right behind to serve as a backboard as well. The extra usb ports are a pleasant addition as well as the webcam holder. They are loud - I could hear them easily from two rooms down, behind doors, so power should not be a worry. They look superior to any other plain set of speakers, and the volume knob on the side is convenient as well. They are not portable, but better left on the table as a permanent set for the laptop. Regardless, it is definitely an item I would recommend to someone looking for complementary speakers for their laptop.
