This is my first web cam and I'm glad I went with it versus a lesser model. The quality is what one would assume being from Logitech. I have Logitech speakers, mouse and keyboard and all of those work great as well. Enough of that, lets get to the web cam.
The picture quality is great, the pictures it takes are great and possibly very high resolution if you set it to max. The HD video it records is crisp and clean and I wasn't expecting it to be that clear.
The microphone so far is my only hurdle. I haven't been able to get it work right outside of recording video where it performs great. When I tested it in a video it picked up my voice clearly and it had little to no background noise. However when I tried it in windows recorder and even later in a PC game using voice chat it picked up a lot of background noise and static. The mic seems to be very sensitive and for some reason only works very well when recording video. However I will not hold it against the product as it could be related only to my situation and its small enough to let it slide.
In conclusion at the time of writing this review I would say this is the best web cam you can get. The fact its under $100, can take 8MP pictures and HD video at 720 plus its a crisp streaming cam, you can't beat it in my opinion. Given that this is my first web cam I might be slightly skewed but I am a very happy customer and I would recommend this cam to anyone.

When I got the Logitech QuickCam Pro 9000 I immediately put it through its paces, but not the types of standard web-based applications one might about. Rather I utilized the camera as a workhorse in a scientific research laboratory, collecting time-lapse images of biological samples. What makes this particular application tricky is that I wished to image the samples under a background of dim infrared light. Older versions of the QuickCam were incompatible with such an application unless a small infrared-blockinglens was first removed (something that was not trivial). To my pleasant surprise the Pro 9000 is sufficiently IR senstive to be tested for my application. In fact the Pro 9000 performed with flying colors, delivering very high quality images of high resolution, capable of detailed subsequent digital analysis. The optics on this camera are of the highest quality for such a small unit - Zeiss was the way to go!
While the application described here is not the norm I believe it fully illustrates the power of this little camera. Highly recommended for simple digital imaging for electronic communications, as well as finer applications like that described above.

So this camera has been the BEST of all the 6 webcams i've gone through in the last 10 years. i've always upgraded my logitech cams as they've improved over the years and let me say this one is by far the best logitech has put out so far. I use this on my 3 year old dual core HP DV9035nr. I've got 2gig of ram, and a built in graphics card. running win7 32bit pro. The camera is built well, hopefully it stays that way. never had any real quality issues with logitech except on one camera (which lasted about 2 years).
Compatible with Skype. The quality on skype as I live in california and my parents in chicago, is great. I show off my daughter to my parents weekly. since I got this camera they said the image is way better than the notebook pro camera i had for the last 2 years. We tested it with the logitech VID software, and my parents said the video quality wasn't as clear. but we'll try over time maybe logitech hasn't fine tuned the VID software. So we'll be sticking with skype since it gets the best image. My parents love watching their grandchild via this camera.
I had no install or driver issues with this so it should work assuming you have the dual core processor and enough ram. i'd highly recomend to anyone. Just wish it was smaller and more portable. the notebook webcams have a carrying case, this one does not. i'll miss that, but all in all it fits my laptop just right.

Tried several webcams. This one is the best yet. Easy to set up and really fun software bundled with it.
I installed the software on two of my three computers using the included disk. Both times the installation went without issues. Then once installed the software automatically went onto Logitech's website and updated the software. This installation process was the same on my Vista and XP computers.
On the third computer I installed the software right off Logitech's website and not the included disk. That elimitated the need for the computer to upload the newer version. In both cases, the results were the same, EASY!
As for the camera? The controls are all software driven and very easy to use, even while on a skype call.
The special effects that come bundled in the software are really easy to use and very fun!
I also tried using this webcame as a camcorder for short videos. The results were spectacular! to say the least.
The product is a treasure trove of fun! Tons more than I expected. I thought I was just buying a high priced webcam.
I just ordered another 9000 for my second computer and the Pro model for my laptop.
More to follow. When I recieve the laptop version.
Note. the 9000 is perfectly fine for notebook or desktop computers.
