Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Logitech 720p Webcam Pro 9000

Customer Review: Nice picture
Summary: 5 Stars

I love this cam. I previously had an old gray Quickcam (YEARS ago, before they gave them model numbers I think).

The good news-- it looks very sharp, and can do full-motion video capture at 720p.

What you need to know--
You'll need a computer thats capable enough for the higher resolutions. I was using it on a AMD X2 4400+, 2gb ram, and a Geforce 7600GT pci-express.

Next-- i understand that it comes with an auto-light gain feature, and doesn't require a bright lightsource to display a good picture. This is true. BUT with it on, I saw bad motion blurring, kind of like a bad LCD. Maybe this would go away with a faster processor, but I recommend keeping the room lights on. The Carl Zeis Lens does a great job of receiving the light itself without any processing magic.

One possible cause of this blurring -- Auto-light gain continuously updates itself. Its constantly sampling room light and making adjustments.

Another note- Its a wider angled lens. So if you webcam (youtube?) it won't look like you're zoomed up close. You'll see everything. You'll see the walls/windows on the side of the room, and more of your upper torso. This is pretty neat, especially at the higher resolutions. If you want a zoomed-in face only shot, you can 1) move REAL close to the camera or 2) use the zoom feature.

Just so you know, the zoom feature is digital zoom. You won't see any extra detail, and if you zoom in all the way, you'll see pixels.

Bottom line-- turn auto-gain off and turn the lights on. Better performance with faster computer. You'll be wowed by the clarity and color.

Customer Review: Phenominal Quality
Summary: 5 Stars

I originally owned a Microsoft Lifecam VX-3000 as my 2nd real webcam ever, but 3rd technically. It was alright, but the audio was horrible, so that forced me to get a new microphone because the built-in microphone was terrible. I have probably never seen a Webcam with excellent audio, quality, video effects, and more. This item is truly incredible.

Let me just start with the quality. The quality of the webcam is just wonderful. Rightlight technology enables the webcam to not tolerate the darkness, and show perfect light anywhere I am. In fact, when the house is almost completely dark except for a small amount of light that I can't see, I look on my screen and I see a fully detailed me. Although, it's not as if it's so clear that it's not noticeable that I'm in the dark, it's still very neat. There's a very nice light (no light shines from the webcam incase you're thinking that) that works well in all area.

The audio, or I should say microphone is very excellent. I'm always a little scared that the microphone will go "bye-bye" because it's so excellent. I don't want to lose it. I can talk as low as I possibly can and the microphone detects me. Also, the noise-cancelling is great. Actually, I do hear some of my dad's tv in the background, but that's because it's so loud that NASA can hear it. Not really, but it's quite loud. But, the sound from my dad's tv sounds low enough in the background to give it a smooth balance.

The effects are just wonderful. I can do so many things to express myself, and I can also download more at the Logitech website! What more can you ask for? Logitech is the king of webcams. Thanks.

Customer Review: Excellent Camera
Summary: 5 Stars

I debated if to get this as a second webcam as others can be had for half the price (as was my first webcam, also a Logitech.)

The picture quality is fantastic and head over heels above my other webcam. I use it for Skyp and, if you are going to use Skyp to see your loved ones, it is nice to see them clearly.

Two very small complaints: First, the automatic settings (rightlight or whatever) slow down the frame rate and cause blurring so turn it off if you can. Use as few effects (zooming, panning, etc.) that you need and this will maximize the resolution. It is better to have good lighting with these adjustments off than to try to acocomodate bad lighting with software.

Second, it would be nice to have a physical cover over the lense. Maybe I'm paranoid but my other logiteck has a slide-down cover and that ensures that it is off. There is an obvious blue light when the unit is activated but, still, I feel like someone is recording me all the time (and I'm not typically a paranoid person.)

As with all webcams mounted on the top of monitors, you get this effect where you appear to be looking down and not into the eyes of the person on the other end. This is because you are looking at the screen and the camera is looking down at you. You can mitigate this somewhat by making the video window smaller and moving it up to the top of the screen so it is more in line with the camera. Moving further away from the screen helps as well as long as you don't get too small or dark.

Overall, a very good webcam and highly recommended.

Customer Review: Amazing Picture Quality,Great Webcam

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
Webcams are for two purposes... a visual and audible way to connect with others. For the most part, the audio part is pretty simple because sound does not need much bandwidth to transmit. The part that mot webcams struggle with is the visual aspect. And by far, this is the webcam with the highest video quality I have seen.

It isn't so much the resolution of the camera, which this has down pact with its ability to get up to a high definition quality of video, but the ability to show color well in poor lighting conditions (which is often in an office environment) and focus on its target. It is all three of these abilities that the camera does well and which puts it in a class above everything else.

It isn't just for video conferencing or instant messaging, either. I have it set to record motion so I can see who has visited me while I'm away and it does this job wonderfully! I can also use it to record short little video emails to send to friends and family to add a personal touch when communicating over the Internet. And I'm sure I am barely scratching the surface on what this guy can do.

If you are looking for a webcam, I'd highly suggest this one. Not only does it do everything you need to do but at much lower than a hundred bucks, the price is fantastic to boot.

Customer Review: Instant high res with skype
Summary: 5 Stars

Before I bought this web cam, and experimented with older webcams, it was a huge mess
to try to get videoconferencing at home as good as what I had at work (in a special room at great expense).
Lots of web searches and technical searches, all messy. But when I hooked this HDTV-quality webcom into
my new computer upstairs (a quad core computer, hooked up to Verizon FiOS), Skype instantly noticed it and
when into an impressive high resolution mode, all by itself! My wife had an impressive video business conference with
a group in Hungary, just as good as we have at work, so far as I can tell. A one-to-one conference, where
you can see everyone in the room quite well.

Back when I did a technical search, I found that SightSpeed was actually number one in image quality,
because of some very well documented technology breakthroughs... and it was also free at that time. From the Logitech web
site, it looks as if they bought up that service, which is probably the best you can get if you want 4-way or more-way
video conferences without signing up to $100-per-month services. It also looks as if they upgraded the audio quality
and the interface, which was already happening but badly needed, to compete with Skype.

Under the hood is some fancy video compression. That's a matter of life and death for useful video
(especially at finite cost). The old traditional video technology ... is orders of magnitude worse
and fuzzy and ugly. This is the real stuff.
