Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Logitech 720p Webcam Pro 9000

Customer Review: High quality webcam works great with Vista
Summary: 5 Stars

If I was a true techno-wizard I would have done a video review, but one step at a time. (-:

As I began doing more Skype communicating with friends around the world video became an irresistible option to try. It made a huge difference and really improved the experience far more than I imagined.

Installation on Vista was quick and easy for me, but judging by other reviews this isn't always the case. And all the "special effects" worked, which will require playing with them for about a day until you get bored. (-:

The real benefit is that live video and face-to-face contact *really* improve communications, especially when talking with friends. Also, the camera is very portable with a long cord so it's easy to instantly show photos, diagrams, book covers, etc. (yep, even the weather outside) around your desk.

Sound issues are the only drawback I've experienced. The camera has a built-in mic but when I use my speakers for sound the quality suffers and I get feedback. I bought the camera with a Logitech ClearChat Comfort USB Headset (Black) - this works terrific...BUT it's very hard to switch between my USB speakers and my USB headset. The only procedure I've found involves rebooting and switching USB plugs for the headset. Very inconvenient.

One would think there would be a simple way to toggle sound output devices on the Almighty Vista - I've spent a lot of time Googling and I haven't found one yet. I have found a lot of other frustrated users with the same problem.

But back to the camera it has sharp images, good colors and works well in low light. A great piece of optional equipment for your computer.

Customer Review: Differences between the Quickcam Pro 9000 and the Webcam Pro 9000
Summary: 5 Stars

*******WARNING*** THERE ARE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN THE QUICKCAM PRO 9000 AND THE WEBCAM PRO 9000 ****
The title of the product has been changed to "Logitech Quickcam 9000/Webcam 9000". It used to only say "Logitech Webcam Pro 9000". I imagine this is because of the order issues with people ordering a Webcam Pro 9000 and getting a Quickcam Pro 9000 in the mail. I ordered the Webcam Pro 9000 and received it. It is the best Webcam I have ever used in all aspects. And the widescreeen 720p HD is awesome for making videos on youtube. The box WILL say Webcam Pro 9000 on it if you have the newer version, which I highly recommend. Hope this helps with the confusion that is out there!

Logitech updated the Quickcam Pro 9000 and released it on August 1st 2009 as the Webcam Pro 9000. The differences are as follows per Ladan Khamsepoor // Sr. Product Marketing Manager, Video Business of Logitech:

"There are a few subtle changes:
- While the QuickCam Pro 9000 offers VGA-quality video at 30 frames per second (high-quality video) on Skype, we made adjustments to ensure the updated Webcam Pro 9000 can perform up to VGA-quality video at 30 FPS on any video application, including Logitech Vid.
- The Webcam Pro 9000 was modified to be capable of adjusting to widescreen format and record 720 pixels (1280×720) at up to 30 FPS.
- Finally, software is no longer required for RightLight. Instead, we\'ve built it into the device, so right out of the box, you\'ll get the best image quality possible, regardless of harsh or dim lighting conditions. Perhaps too much information, but we also adjusted the firmware to make sure that RightLight engages only when necessary."

Customer Review: Excellent Webcam (perhaps the best one for XP !)
Summary: 5 Stars

Ever since I have purchased this camera, almost everyone with whom I do video chatting, has appreciated the broadcast quality. I find it better than the creative labs' webcam which I used before. Also, I use Skype mainly to chat with friends around the world and I never had any problem. But the video quality is better on Yahoo messenger than Skype (though I feel Skype has better audio quality but thats a different topic).

Coming back to this webcam, the moment you hold this, you will realize that this is not a cheap product. The built is pretty sturdy and the stand is pretty versatile which can also be used for laptops. You can fit it on any monitor screen (I have tried it on 3-4 different types of monitors).
Then, the logitech software does a pretty good job. A strip down version of Apple's photobooth, you can actually get some cool effects with the software. You can add some animated effects, or use a cartoon to represent you. You can change the background too. You can also download additional effects from their website. So, you can try new effects every time and surprise your friends.I have taken some wacky pictures and videos with my friends.
The software automatically detects the different messengers installed in the computer and you can directly launch the desired messenger through the software.
The mic quality is pretty good. Though I prefer using the mic attached to my headset.
I have tried it on a Windows XP machine so I can't comment on its compatibility with Vista and Mac.
So, if you want excellent broadcast quality during video chatting and you own a XP machine, I will definitely recommend you to try this webcam and I am sure you will feel the same as me about this webcam.

Customer Review: Great Webcam with great price from $59.99 as of 12/18/08
Summary: 5 Stars

I purchased this Webcam, (Logitech QuickCam Pro 9000, 960-000048), 3 weeks ago and it is the best cam I tested out-of 48 in my business! For the price I paid at Tiger Direct of $79.99 plus $4.50 shipping you can not beat-it, until recent price rebates of $20 for a purchased cost of mid-$60 to $70 with shipping. At this price it is a great deal because the newer model is just a little-better and cost about $100.

This is the one-to-buy! Just get from an A+ store like: Amazon, JR, Newegg and Tiger direct and if you check them out on the net you will pay no more than $59.99 to $69.99 plus a few dollars in shipping---Look at these great dot-com sellers with just as great customer service---stay away from outfits that have poor customer policies and higher prices and bad customer support and lack full order tracking.

Why is this webcam so great, let me tell you in one word, Performance:
1) Germany's Carl Zeiss® optics with glass lens. Who makes one of the best camera optics in the world at all price levels.
2) A great autofocus system so images stay sharp, even in close-ups.
3) HD video, at real 960 by 720 pixels.
4) A true two-megapixel sensor. Up to eight-megapixel* photos (enhanced).
5) Adjusts it's self to produce the best possible images in dimly lighted or poorly back lighted settings.
6) Integrated microphone free from echo and annoying background noise for clear conversations.
7) Ultra-wide field of view and face tracking.
8) A manufacturer that is world-class leading and stand behind its customers.
9)Can not be-beat for a total cost of less than $70, look and you can find for Mid $60 including shipping today from many A+++ sellers.

Customer Review: Great Little Camera
Summary: 5 Stars

Oh, Oh, Oh....what a great little camera this is! I own a Sony HandyCam SR45 which cost in the area of 500.00, I have owned a JVC Everio as well ( 400.00 ) and they cannot come close to the picture that the Logitech Quickcam Pro 9000 produces. For the money you are not getting a better product.
There are several different modes, my favorite is HD mode. You get High Definition Video, something my Sony cannot do, even when the Pro 9000 is not in HD mode you still get a superior picture.
For an example go here
Quickcam Pro 9000 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GygwntVQqMM
Sony HandyCam http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wDxVQkfwEfI&feature=channel_page

There are drawbacks in that it isn't that portable, you would need to be plugged into a laptop or desktop so it would be a little more difficult to do videos remotely than with one of the handhelds. But it is definitely do-able. Adjusting light and focus, etc is actually alot easier than with the Sony because it's all software driven and the interface is easily understood. Manual or Auto modes for different situations. Auto is not always the best option.

Sound. Great microphone that produces 24 bit CD quality sound. Watch the volume setting if you're doing music, the mic is very sensitive and I have to keep my volume on the lowest setting before off or it will spike and distort. This isn't necessary for normal voice.
Also, I record very close to the unit so the further away you are this problem goes away.

Do not be afraid to buy this unit, it is the best unit they make and I'm sure that you will be blown away by it's capabilities.
