I'm glad I waited this long to buy another webcam. My last one was the 3Com HomeConnect camera that was made popular on Tech TV back when Leo Lapore hosted. That one broke and I swore I would wait until one came out with a good lens. Well it's here.
Maybe you can get a better one somewhere, but for under a hundred bucks, the image on this camera is amazing. You won't be getting HD resolution through MSN Messenger, but you can record that HD to your hard drive and share with friends and family.
I tried out the on-board mic with a friend of mine. He said I sounded good so I will take his word for it. I love that I can ditch my old headset and just use my speakers now!
Installation took about 10 minutes to copy the software to my Vista drive. Then it just worked. I had no issues. Very easy process. I have only tested it so far with Windows Live Messenger. Autofocus works quite well. And it's quiet. You don't hear motors inside focusing back and forth.
I have a 24" Wide Dell and the camera fits very nicely on top. A small amount of "rubber" surfaces keeps it from moving around. Nice design.
The "Red Circle" in the image that you see comes on when the camera is showing/recording video. Software settings allows you to disable this if you want. There are also a lot of manual override settings for almost everything should you want to tweak the image in your own way.
If you are interested in the little graphics - the avatars, hats and mustaches etc... they seemed to work pretty well. As long as you don't move quickly. I was impressed that with the character mode (Where you look like a cartoon cat or a shark), when you blink or open your mouth, the character really blinks and opens his/her mouth. It really works! Too silly for me, but kids and some adults will love this function.
Buy it for the quality of the image. It's impressive for the money!

I have tried numerous different webcams made by various different manufacturers and none of them compared to this webcam. We primarily use the WebCam for skype, youtube, some video recording and the Logitech pro 9000 works like an absolute dream once you get the software installed. There have been a lot of people who have complained in the past about troubles installing the software, but luckily we have and had such difficulty. My main complaints with the other webcams I've tried in the past were picture quality (contrast, hues, color etc..),choppy video ( despite claims that the product achieves 30 fps), lack of motion detection. This is where the Logitech quick cam pro 9000 really shines; I have no complaints with any of the complaints I've had in the past with other products. The picture quality and smooth transitions between pictures is on paralleled. We were so happy with the performance of this product that we bought both sets of grandparents one of these so that we could video conference via skype. At first,they were amazed is video conference at all, but then once they installed this video camera they were dumbfounded by how clear a picture was even when we video conferenced with grandparents in Japan. There were no delays, and they said that the picture quality was 10 times better than it was when we were using a Microsoft Lifecam. I would say the only negative comment we have regarding this product is the difficulty of installing the software on some systems. I believe we had difficulty installing this camera on our laptop, but since it is not our primary computer we use to video conference it is of little consequence to us and does not affect our review of this product to the extent it would if like some people have reported. Up to this point, I have not had the pleasure of using a web cam better than this one and if someone has a recommendation of a web cam superior to this one,I would welcome any information they have.Customer Review: Surprising webcam

Logitech Quickcam Pro 9000 - Web camera - color - audio - Hi-Speed USB
I bought one for us and for my daughter, so that we could have SKYPE video conversations with my daughter and grand children. Although our computers were less than the suggested power, we were able to have full screen conversations at each end. I took my laptop with me when we visited, so that when I installed it at her end, I knew that it was working. My end on Vista (basic and home), her end on XP.
I have about 50 years of computer experience so grandpa did the installation. For some reasons when we called she needed to reboot her computer, we had to communicate by cell phone to know what was happening.
But after everything was going, the sound connection came in quickly through the Qickcam mic, then the video started up in about a minute.
The surprising thing was that I didn't see in the specs that the camera had followme as well as auto focus. So, the camera tended to move to the person closest or doing the most movement. On our end, it moved randomly between my wife and myself. There are options to turn off the auto focus that I assume will turn off the followme also. There is of course settings for the camera that allow you to manually move the focus and direction of the camera.
All in all the camera worked well, there is a little hook on the camera that allows me to hook it onto the top of my LCD monitor. There is a red light to show the camera is active, although I can run the camera without the red light coming on, so I disconnect the camera for privacy some times.
The mic in the camera works well for making local calls to stores without using the video using SKYPE out.
I wish it had some kind of stand so I could use it to video meetings, but I haven't tried that yet.

I purchased this Logitech 9000 Pro. It was one of the best purchases... honestly!!I I had initially got Creative IM Pro Webcam for $50... It sucked... soon we figured that it had lots of issues while setting it up.
This is what we did. After getting slightly suspicious on our kid's nanny irratic behavior, we wanted to monitor her activity while we were out. This was the best device. I also had hidden spy camera in another room with Sharp CCD lens but very interestingly the quality of the picture from CMOS lens in 9000 Pro was much better then CCD (which is supposed to to much higher quality)!!
Setup was Easy. I setup to record the HD Video from Webcam on the hardisk. I had to cover the front of the webcam with small plastic as it glows red light when recording. I did not not want anyone to notice that.
I was amazed by the microphone sensitivity on this device. I could listen to our nanny talking from even 20 feet away. Also could listen our infant crying from even farther distance.
The low light visibility of this camera was AMAZING!! It lit up the picture very well with "Perfect Light 2". We loved the crstal clear video. Also the Video was extra wide and covers larger area than most webcams.
From what we saw (and heard) astornished us. He caught her (on camera) mistreating our baby and stealing stuff from our home!! Everything had voice recorded with clarity. When we asked her she lied/denied everything. We threw out the nanny immediately and she had no clue what had hit her.
Something that could have been slightly better
1. The Software included is excellent but could easily have had few more options like timestamp on the video. Most Video software have this option.
2. The front light looks cool but should have option to disable it. I had to cover it discreetly with plastic and tape. Not very elegant!

I own many Logitech products and have over the years, and I've always been satisfied with their quality. I had purchased a QuickCam Communicate MP for a remote Dog monitor system I setup at home, so I could watch my dogs from work, and interact with them remotely when they got out of line. I was quite impressed with that camera, and I had been thinking about doing some online instructional videos, so I started looking for more advanced cams. This one seemed to stand out in reviews, and I eventually purchased it. Couldn't be happier. At all resolutions it's crisp, smooth and even without the light enhancement running in the software, it does very well in low light. With light enhancement turned on, your frame rates drop but it does extremely well in dark locations. The mount is sort of weird, but seems to work fine, and the camera is actually quite aesthetic so it's easy on the eyes when not in use.
the camera takes nice still shots, comparable to my old 2MP digital camera, but I didn't really buy it for that purpose. The video quality is very nice. Too bad it doesn't do wide 16:9 video, but rather it only does 4:3, so the high definition they speak of isn't going to be a true 720 resolution other than the fact that the vertical pixel count is indeed 720. All in all, it's the nicest webcam I've ever used. The included software works great, although it will only allow you to record about 3 minutes of video, which I find to be strange. It seems to cater to those that want to stream. I've been using VLC player with it, and you can stream to windows media or to other VLC players with no problem with it.
All in all, great camera, worth the price... if you can find it cheaper than retail (and you should be able to) it's worth the money, that is, if you want/need a really good webcam.
