Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Logitech 720p Webcam C905

Customer Review: Extremely easy to use
Summary: 5 Stars

Installing this cam was the easiest thing ever. Literally. This is my first webcam... I bought this primarly for communicating with a family member who was traveling to Europe... she bought a netbook with a 1.3 mp built-in webcam, and we decided on using Skype to keep in touch, so I decided to purchase this cam so we could make videophone calls. I was using this cam on my desktop -- I opened the box, plugged in the USB, and that was it -- Skype immediately recognized it, and I didn't even have to install any drivers for this thing. (I'm using XP SP3, 32 bit). The only thing I had to do was tell Skype to use the mic on the webcam, instead of my headphone mic. The picture is clear, the sound is clear, no problems. This particular cam is portable (it comes with a little soft pouch to store the cam in), and it's intended for a laptop, but I'm using it for my desktop... it also comes with a little stand (12" tall) you can mount the cam to, and it just sits next to my monitor (the clip on the cam is not big enough so that it will mount directly on my 22" monitor, but no big deal). It's not top of the line -- from researching the Logitech site, it's more like 2nd or 3rd best in terms of quality, currently, but all in all, considering quality vs. price, I am very satisfied. It is more than adequate for my Skype videophone needs.

Customer Review: Logitech C905 Webcam
Summary: 5 Stars

Nice webcam, works well, although I'm not sure if the low light function is working properly. This is a second Logitech webcam I've installed on a desktop and with both I had problems getting the microphone to function. The same may hold true for a laptop that doesn't have a built in webcam. There's nothing in the instruction explaining how to activate the microphone. In Windows XP, here's how to activate the microphone for use with Skype:
1) At the lower right of your screen, you will see a bunch of little icons.
Right click on the little speaker (round-looks like a radio speaker) icon.
2) Select "Adjust Audio Properties" from the drop down menu
3) Click on the "Audio" tab at the top of the pop up window
4) In the middle of the pop up window, you will see "Sound Recording". You
will see your sound card ID listed in the box. Click on the little arrow to
the right
5) From the pop down menu you should see "Logitech Webcam" listed. Please
note that the webcam must be plugged in and installed before you will see
the Logitech webcam listed. Click on it. "Logitech webcam" should now
appear in the box.
6) Then click "O.K." at the bottom.
7) Do the echo test again in Skype and the webcam microphone should now
work.

Customer Review: Great camera, well worth the additional money!
Summary: 5 Stars

We bought this after reading numerous reviews of all the current web cams. We were hoping to only spend about $40 on a camera as there seemed to be many brand name options out there in that price range. After reading about all the people who had taken back many of the $40 options and the rave reviews on this one we decided to get this camera. It is easy to setup and works great. We did have to download the latest software from Logitech, as the software on the CD would not install on our computer, but that was easy enough. All our family said the image quality was great, so we suggested they get the same camera. Unfortunately no one else purchased the same camera. While the image we see of them is acceptable it looks horrible compared to what they see of us. We even did a side by side comparison when they came to visit, and this camera is well worth the extra $35 if you are buying it on Amazon vs local prices of other cameras like the Microsoft one.

About the only thing that bothers me is when I clip it to our laptop I often press the button on top of the camera and it snaps a still shot. Otherwise I am very happy we chose to spend the extra money and get the best camera we could. At least our family can see our daughter perfectly, even if we can't see them as well.

Customer Review: Highly recommended.

This is my first experience with a web camera, but I'm impressed. I purchased it for use both with my newer desktop and with my older laptop. Installation of the included software was easy, as is operation. I installed on my desktop first as instructed, but then tried just plugging it in to my laptop. It was detected and worked right away. I installed the software anyway because it gives you control over various adjustments and features. A warning came up that my laptop's resources might be inadequate and some features may not work, but I loaded it anyway and so far there are no problems. In my opinion the picture, video, and sound quality are very good. Close-ups are possible too - I took a picture of my thumb that fills the screen and you can clearly see the pattern of my thumb print. This web cam is really designed for portable use, so the USB cable is just long enough to reach from the edge of my desk (mounted on the included stand) down to the top of my tower on the floor. It also comes with a little zippered pouch, which is a nice touch. I just purchased the Logitech Webcam Pro 9000 for my parents so that we can video Skype together. I haven't tried it yet but noticed that it does have a longer cable. I recommended either if these to my sister also.

Customer Review: Great Little Webcam
Summary: 5 Stars

This is the perfect webcam for using with a laptop. The image quality is outstanding and works well even in low light. The cord is just long enough to connect up to a USB port without getting in the way and saves space when packed up in the tiny neoprene case that's included. Logitech even thought to include a handy mini velcro strap on the USB cord to keep things organized. There's a small and quite adequate microphone with the camera. The stand that is included with the camera breaks apart into three smaller pieces so it can also easily fit in one's gear bag. I'm a bit concerned it's not quite sturdy enough for constant assembly-and-disassembly. I can see using the stand quite a bit when attending lectures because it isolates the microphone from the sound of keyboard typing. I also own an Quick Cam Ultra Vision on a workstation at work. All in all, I'd say that this tiny webcam gives the huge Ultra Vision a good run for it's money on image quality and features, but is much more convenient for the road warrior. Logitech is obviously taking web cams seriously-- these are the two best webcams I have ever seen. They suddenly make video conferencing, video Skype, and OneNote video notes a must have.
