Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Labtech 980232-0403 Stereo Headset with MicrophoneCustomer Review: It's cheap, comfortable for most head types and it works very well...what more do you need in a comp-headset? Summary: 5 Stars
The title pretty much sums it up. This headset does exactly what a headset should do and at a price that's hard to match or beat. Be aware that this thing is not USB, it uses a split 1/8th inch jack set up with a separate input/output for the headphone jack and the microphone jack. If you have front jacks on your comp and the tower is within a reasonable distance from your keyboard / monitor, this is a pretty easy setup. If you do not have front jacks or if you are one of those people that have your tower tucked far away or behind something you're going to need some 1/8th inch headphone extender cords. The cord on this thing is acceptable, but I would not say that it is long. I can wear this comfortably sitting down, but if I stand up, it becomes a scene from a tween movie pretty quickly.
Because this uses the 1/8th in jacks, there are no drivers to install at all, this thing is truly plug and play.
I have only used this for general use, for which it is perfectly acceptable and for playing Left 4 Dead with people online. The sound quality of this unit is actually pretty supprisingly good for the price. I have $80 noise cancelling headphones that aren't quite this good. As long as you keep things at a non-hearing-loss volume there is no distortion and you get a great range of sound. The mic pickup is good and response is also great. When I make zombie noises the other people on my team can't discern my sounds from the game and it will cause a wild shooting frenzy. I'm really good at making zombie noises though, you may not have the same skill, but this is not the headset's fault.
This unit fits nicely. I have a small head, kind of like Will Smith, and it still fits me fine. There is a lot of adjustment that I do not use so I imagine that this would be a comfortable fit for all but the most pumpkin headed out there. The mic can be swivled to be used on either side, so if you have a dominate ear it can accomidate that. I would definatelty buy this unit again if I needed a second headset for my second head. No problems as of the time of writing this review.
