Purchased through Amazon, this Logitech Desktop Microphone combines the best of the old and new. My iMac internal placement is at the top of the chassis and receives audio from above. I realized this when I covered the opening with Velcro one day and could not get sound in on Skype! Immediately I went to Amazon and read the reviews for this Logitech mic.
Setup was a breeze. I plugged the desktop mic into my USB hub. The mic has a front green on-off button, so it's easy to mute the mic. I checked my Sound Preference. The device showed up and I selected it immediately, adjusting the input sensitivity to a perfect level, awaiting a Skype contact. The mic is very light and can be pulled by the long cord, like the tail wagging the dog. This occurs with many such lightweight devices.
My remedy is to secure it with Velcro to a can of veggies This brings the mic head nearer my mouth.
Last night's test with friends in South Carolina went well. They reported unusual clarity and sensitivity to ambient sounds in the room. I feel that such a USB microphone produces better sound than one attached to a mic-in or audio in jack.
Pros: USB input, clear speech reproduction, sensitive; adjustable boom, lights when turned on, long cord.
Cons: lightweight device, easily moved without support.
Overall: Great USB mic for those wishing to replace a poorly located or small computer mic.
