Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
I've always liked Logitech products and this one has proven to live up to all my expectations. As an active gamer I can appreciate every advantage I can get over other players or the AI; it's all about speed and timely information. This product gives you both in the form of programmable keys for micros and an LCD screen for extra information. The keys feel perfect to the touch with just the right amount of tactile feedback. Smooth and quiet. And the fact that you can color code them is an added bonus that makes it even easier to hit the right key at the right time.
The color LCD screen is just plain cool. When I hooked up the keyboard for the first time there was already some built-in information including CPU clock speed, available RAM, as well as a clock face. You can choose to let the system rotate among the displays at any speed you want or you can opt to just have one of them displayed. When I booted up World of Warcraft, I got several screens available for use including a nifty battleground display, a chat screen, and a statistics display. Too cool! If the LCD ever gets distracting for some reason you can put it to sleep with just one button.
The curent list of supported games is still a bit meager so it may be worth your while to check to see if your favorite is among them. I understand it is open source so there may well be lots more coming fairly soon. I tried out WoW, Fallout 3, and Sims 2 so far (Sims 3 not yet available).
Hard core gamers such as multi-boxers may already have seperate key devices of one kind or another that allows macro programming but it is nice to have them on the same keyboard. Here you get 36 macro keys (in 3 sets of 12). I also like the fact that you can toggle the Windows key on or off so you don't accidentally crash your game. Like all new tools, this does take a little getting used to though. In the midst of battle, my fingers automatically know where certain keys and buttons are and I can honestly say it takes less time to program the keys of this keyboard than it does to reprogram my fingers :) Of course for non gaming applications, the look and feel of the keys should be suitable for everybody.
My only beef is in the lack of written instructions. There is a well-done demo provided on the disk, prepared for the video generation entirely...no words, only animated movement demonstrating the features and how to program them. The help file is a bit generic, covering other keyboard models as well so you have to suffer through the "if your model does not include an LCD then skip this part" kind of info.
In summary, another great product from Logitech. I have great hopes for even more games to become supported as time goes on...the sheer mind-blowing potential will only grow in the future.
