I take a lot of notes at work group meetings and was using the Adesso tablet system which is still very good but was interested in the audio capabilities of Livescribe.
The pen is easy to hold in your hand and the quality of the digitized text/drawings is perfect. The ability to record audio and create text to audio links on paper is amazing. This helps so much when publishing group minutes. The Livescribe software is also high quality and it provides seamless transfer of pen sessions to a host computer.
The only downsides I can think of are you have to use Windoze (Linux is not supported) and it is recommended to sync to with only one computer.

I got this product as a gift for my birthday last year. When I first got it, I was slightly disappointed that it wasn't what I wanted although I did think it was pretty cool. I forgot about it until the next morning when my mom reminded me of. Me and my friend had a blast with it. We doodled in the notebook, recorded audio, and thought it was awesome when we saw what we drew appear on the computer screen.
Installation was great as far as I can remember although it was slightly slow. The construction quality is pretty good but it's hard to get a good grip on it sometimes. Overall, it's very useful and I believe it will come in handy in the future.

i RECEIVED THE 1 GIG pen as a Christmas present. I figured it was a gimmick and really didn't pay much attention to it until i returned to grad school the next month. This thing is unbelievable! Yes, I'm easily distracted in class-and sometimes I just don't get the point. This really does exactly what it says it will. Forget typingin class on your stupid mac-we know you're only texting anyway. the real business world is a PC world. If you're used to taking notes rather than texting, this is the thing for you! You really don't need the 2 gig pen, it seriously takes a long time to fill up this thing and my classes are all three hour seminars.Customer Review: Awesome

Great tool. It's so much more than a digital pen and the software really makes it something special. The ability to click your paper and hear exactly what was said when you took a note is really neat. Plus, you can now print your own paper for free! The notepads are expensive, but if you compare them to other quality notebooks of their type (e.g., four star, black & red) they're not too bad and are of equal quality. The only downside is you can't erase.
One note. If you get the dreaded error code 4, just write support and follow their instructions to a tee. The new firmware fixes the problem other reviewers commented about.

I thought the Smartpen was too good to be true. I take meeting minutes and conduct investigative interviews and I'm always looking for something to improve my ability to accurately record these events. I've tried tape recordings but there's always glitches. The first time I used this pen I was blown away. I have both a Mac and Windows based computer and although they say you can only use it on one, you can upload the software and use it on two. The Mac software is a little weak, but their Windows interface is spot-on. It's truly a miracle pen.
