Customer Review: Should have had it while in school
Summary: 5 Stars

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
Im quite impressed with this little gizmo. It really does record everything you write and draw and transfers it right to your computer. The audio recording is amazingly high quality considering the size of the device. There are earbuds included in this package that work as playback and recording for more accurate surround sound data.

A university student would find this quite useful. Any graphs or symbols written on the notes are accurately recorded. The pages provided in the notebook include panels for calculator, (regular, scientific, financial and statistical) keyboard and alternate character map.

The package includes interchageable ink cartriges and a stylus. The catch to all this is the notepad. There is a little "camera" near the end of the pen that watches everything. The pen knows if you are using the official smart pen notepad or not. It ONLY works on the official notepad. It even knows if you have used up a specific page in your notes(they are numbered), even if you have just used the stylus and there is no ink on the paper. There is a very fine pattern to the paper background.. much like the US mint does on its money. This means that a copy machine will not be able to reproduce this paper well enough to fool your smart pen. This is where they get you. The pen itself is amazingly cheap considering all the neat stuff it can do. But SmartPen notepads are where where this cost is re-couped by the manufacturer. The pen is useless without the notepad.

Customer Review: An amazing device!

I recently purchased the 1GB Pulse Smartpen for use at work and school. I am extremely impressed with the included items and the pen itself. It it well built and has a lot of potential. The system itself could be described as a cross between a notebook, pen, Tivo, and a Tablet PC - without the bulk! I was able to begin using the pen right out of the box, as it came partially charged. The tutorial notebook and cards were extremely easy to use and follow, making learning a breeze. The pen includes built-in microphones and a speaker, and yes it will literally talk you through the tutorial! You may use the included headphones with built-in microphones to record in stereo, or any 2.5mm (adapter required for 3.5mm) headphones, or just the built-in speaker to listen to recorded notes.

Pros:
Very lightweight
About the size of a large Mont Blanc pen (i.e., not too bulky)
Ready to record within 5 seconds of being turned on, or instantly if already on
Quick transfer speeds when syncing with the computer
Ability to print your own dot-based paper on a supported color printer
Ease-of-use
Speed of recalling recorded audio, as it is synced with your note taking!
Ability to easily add new applications or features to the pen

Cons:
Use of dot paper - probably no way around this, as it's required to properly record the pen position

I wish something like this was around when I started college - it would have made note taking so much easier!

Customer Review: Awesome pen (Software's a work in progress) that will change your work or school life
Summary: 5 Stars

I'm a graduate student in a humanities program--lots of seminars with ideas being batted around. I've found that I feel really inspired in class and think of a lot of great topics for research, but it always seems hard to piece those back together after class (through memory, notes, etc), and even if I take detailed notes, I can't possibly connect all of the comments made by other students that led to my idea.
So, when I saw that Target was having a special on this pen ($15 gift card with purchase) I did some research, which included reading Amazon's reviews, and then bought it. I used the pen for class in a seminar room and for a large lecture hall course that I TA in, and the audio is entirely serviceable--this isn't concert hall quality, but I don't need it to be.
I've got a Mac and the software install was no problem. My chicken scribble notes mostly don't register on the "search" function, but I have no doubt that if I write larger they will. The software isn't ideal, but it's still thrilling to be able to use the replay functions and re-experience discussions--I've even started to write notes to myself on the page to "listen here" when I know I've missed something in the dialogue because I was writing, didn't know how to spell something or was distracted for a moment.
This is a great tool, and gives you plenty of bang for your buck. I expect the software upgrades will resolve any beefs other customers have had, but I'm totally satisfied with the pen as-is.

Customer Review: A must-have for any student!

I am absolutely in love with this product. It has greatly improved my studying as well as what I get out of my college classes. I wish I would have had this in high school. The description and the videos on the website do NOT do it justice! I bought the 1GB at eighty during a goldbox deal, and it was a GREAT price! Even the ink refills and having to buy the special notebooks is worth it. Never before have I had such an easy time reviewing my notes. And never again will I read through my notes and think "what the hell does this mean?" I can just tap on it, and hear exactly what my professor was saying at the time I was writing whatever it is I can't understand or remember. This is much more compact and less intrusive than carting around a laptop and typing notes. It doesn't disturb anyone around you, and once your fellow students see how it works, they'll want one too.

The only slight drawback is the thickness of the pen takes some time to get used to, but I have rather small hands, so that might be a problem unique to me. After you get used to it though, it's fabulous. Considering how much it holds, it's certainly a great size.

Thank you Amazon for the great deal - been using it for months and LOVE it! This is probably my most favorite purchase in the last few years. I'd definitely buy it again. In fact, I wish I had gotten it sooner!

Customer Review: I Didn't Know I Needed This!

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
I teach second grade and have triplets. I will be the first to admit that sometimes my thoughts travel during meetings, to places like DiaperLand and HusbandTown ... the latter is chock full of laziness and the inability to cook -- this pen has done so much for me in just one single day of use!

The software is easy to install on a PC and it had an extremely low learning curve ... really low learning curve. You just have to write and let the pen do the work; missed something crucial or the like just click on the word and get every word the person said. What truly saved me today was when I wrote down the date followed by a brief message. My boss made a huge mistake and I even played back the audio that would have cost me hours I just didn't have to spare -- SCORE ONE FOR ME!!!

This pen is a must have for students or anyone else that may need a little extra help that some may consider minor details that somehow snowball into major ones in the work-world.
