Customer Review: Awesome, but there is a bit of a problem
Summary: 3 Stars

Well first off let me say that this phone is AWESOME, it's great not having to use the computer for skype anymore. However there are three reasons it's lacking a star.

1) the ringer used to preview when I was choosing, now it does, also it doesn't ring when someone calls me. (I've checked the silent mode, etc etc) It's nothing like that

2)For some reason the "services" tab within the phone says that I need to purchase skypeout credit, however, I have the Skype Ultimate plan which in my profile says I can use skype out until next may.
Plus the only way I can call anyone is by adding them to my skype list on my laptop and let the skype phone update itself.

3) I've tried upgrading the firmware but it won't work. The constant message is "USB not ready" Vista won't find the proper driver online and the only file I have that should be a driver still doesn't work.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Other than that, great phone and I love it, it does serve my purposes. Just a few little kinks to work out, which more than make up for the money I saved on it.

Customer Review: Good app (Skype) on bad hw...
Summary: 3 Stars

Have this phone for few days. First thing I did is to update the software; the new rev enables the speakerphone.
The good:
- The call and speaker phone audio is ok. The Skype application is very good.
- Nice plastic body with large buttons, large letters and good spacing. The screen is ok too.
The bad:
- The phone does not have dedicated speaker phone button and the speaker phone is activated via soft menu 'options' item. This menu appears only after the receiving party answers the call; at that time you have to remove the phone from your year, press options menu soft key, scroll to the speaker phone menu item and press select; during this time you can not hear the other party... bad, bad design.
- Today the phone stopped rsponding; recovered by removing and re-inserting the battery.
- The notificationb menu item displays sound off icon despite that all sounds are on.

Customer Review: Stay Calm!
Summary: 3 Stars

The phone is excellent and does what it says on the package, if like me you want free phone calls for a year for $30 in the US then thats the reason to put up with it.

The battery doesn't last an hour, I was aware of that so OK
It doesn't always connect first time, frustrating
You have to push +1 for every call, annoying
The phone doesn't come with the latest firmware update, annoying
The firmware wouldn't and hasn't uploaded, annoying
The power lead means you must be sitting down to use the phone while plugged in and not on a high seat otherwise your head is on your knee!

If you dont mind these things and I dont as all the reviews warned me of this then the phone is an annoying bargain.

Customer Review: ok phone, but with issues
Summary: 3 Stars

when the phone works it is great. clear, loud sound, etc. however there are quite a few times when you can't connect on the first try, sometimes a reboot is required. also the battery standby time is pretty short.

has one disadvantage over the phones that have base (like this one: Netgear Dual Mode Cordless Phone with Skype), it has no way for you to pre-set your location, so that means you always have to dial + (or really 00), then area code, then the number. i wish there was a way to set a default location.

tried other linksys skype phones and one from netgear, with all the faults of this phone it still beats them.

Customer Review: Good for our situation, but...
Summary: 3 Stars

We purchased this phone in Februrary '08, & over the last six months have been pleased. We live aboard a sailboat in the Caribbean, & Skype is the only good (cheap + reliable) calling option. The phone seems to be as good as the internet connection. Sometimes excellent; other times not so. The battery is fine for our sometimes hour-long calls with plenty of juice left. What I don't get is why the price has gone up so much. We paid $119 with free shipping. It's worth that much. For $259, get a headset & use the computer! Not worth the expense.
