Customer Review: Non-standard headset jack

The headset jack which other reviewers say is broken or
non-functional is in fact a non-standard 4 connector jack (most
headset jacks are 3 connector, one for earphone sound, one for mic
input, and one for ground).
Some mobile phones have stereo sound for MP3 playback, and use a 4
connector jack, but Skype is not a stereo service. There is no
documentation from Linksys on what the pinout of that 4 connector jack
is.
If you use an adapter cable such as the PPC Techs XDA/SX56 2.5mm STD
Mono Headset Adaptor, it allows you to use a standard headset with the
WIP320.
MobilePlanet sells that adapter, I have tested it today, and it
finally allows me to use a standard Plantronics headset with my
WIP320.

I was a bit hesitant ordering this product with the very mixed reviews but I'm glad I did.
Ordered Nov 07 it came with firmware version: 1.1.0.16
After the recommended charge (8 hours) it was very easy to setup in just a few steps (enter network info, enter Skype account info) it loaded my contacts and was very easy to use. Call quality was good. Speakerphone was good. Battery life is very good (using only 1/3 of a battery for all day intermittent use).
Things it needs (or may have but I have not figured out yet):
- Auto prefix manual number with a default value (+1 is a pain)
- Auto Update contacts from Skype (it so far keeps original contacts and does not see changes I've made on my PC to Skype contacts).)

My big time phone CO employer took my cell phone away, even though I did'nt abuse it...so first I got the "Netgear" phone it had serious working flaws right out of the box...tech service was horible too...sent it back to "Amazon" (very painlesly) & got the "Linksys" WIP320... it works as described, pluses...ID's strongest router signal first, call quality as good as cell 90% of time, unlimited POTS calling in North America through "Skype" for $30 a year...NEG'S could use larger battery, but I plug it into my truck laptop W/ the included USB power cord, also use it as wi-fi det for laptop before I break it out.

I received this product in just two days with Amazon Prime. Five minutes later I was talkingo my daughter in England, skype to skype. Setup was incredibly easy, just follow to phone prompts. I did not need to load software on my computer. Sound quality was good - much better than that coming from my laptop speakers. Calling skype to skype is so easy. Skype-out works great too... just dial "+1" then the area code and phone number. Range is decent, work wherever my signal reaches. It does have speakerphone which is only fair. Overall, this phone works much better than the ratings lead me to believe. I just may buy another!Customer Review: Good but not great!

I bought this product about a month ago. It's useful while working around the house with a wireless broadband connection, however, it's not that useful while away from your base.
It works on "open" wireless networks but not "free" wireless networks. Some wireless connections, such as those at McDonalds, are free. You can use a laptop to tap into the system easily but you can't use the IPhone to log in. Battery life is OK. Talk time is 2+ hours and standby time is about 20 hours before charging.
