Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Cisco-Linksys WUSB600N Dual-Band Wireless-N USB Network AdapterCustomer Review: Worked when DLINK DWA160 didn't! Summary: 5 Stars
5 stars to Cisco-Lynksys WUSB600N!!!!!
Been having a huge problem with Dlink DWA 160 HW Ver B1 FW ver 2.00 adapter dropping wireless connection all the time (every 5 or 10 minutes), large downloads fail, web pages stop loading, etc. Using DLINK 655 wireless router. "Received Deauthentication Token", "wireless system with MAC address ... associated, wireless system with MAC address ... linked" entries endlessly in wireless router log. As an IT professional, decided to figure out and fix the problem. On the phone with tech support for hours and hours, no changes. Days on the web researching, lots of people with the same problem, but no fix. Tired of BS from vendors saying its "interference" or some other externel problem. Starting to look like a problem with the 802.11n specification.
Had to buy a new wireless adapter for daughter's computer, decided to try the Cisco-Lynksys WUSB600N, and following suggestions from others, inserted the adapter first, then manually selected the driver location onthe CD. Up and running in less than 2 minutes. PROBLEM WITH DROPPING SIGNAL COMPLETELY CURED. Not a single error in wireless router log for 2 days now, not a single dropped connection, downloaded 3GB file with absolutely no problem at all.
Customer Review: Good performance; ideal for desktops Summary: 5 Stars
The 600N goes into a USB port. If you're planning to use on a laptop, note that it's thicker than a normal USB connector and may it block adjacent ports. It comes with a normal USB cable connected to a small stand so the thickness is not a problem for a desktop -- just plug the cable in, put the adapter into the stand, put it on a convenient surface.
And the USB adapter pulls in the signal from a municipal wi-fi point attached to a phone pole across a very wide main street from my wife's office. The signal is solid enough so that she could cancel the Verizon DSL service she's been using and save about thirty dollars a month. The installation software worked as adverstised, in contrast to some other Linksys installation software I've used. The adapter's performance is a nice contrast to the crummy results from a Linksys WRG 310N router, which turned out to have less range than my G + MIO router -- and useless installation software.
The ability to link to the municipal wi-fi signal shows that the N protocol for wi-fi is reasonably mature, so the WUSB600N USB adapter is worth considering even if you're connecting to something other than a Linksys wireless router.
Customer Review: Did the job! Summary: 5 Stars
The wireless component in my laptop broke for the 2nd time, so went and got this. I have Windows Vista btw. Anyway, it is easy to install: FIRST place CD in follow the instructions, then when prompted insert Wireless Adapter, let it install it's software, click on "your" router (Be careful because you may click on someone else's; yes with the range I was able to pick up 2 other routers in my neighborhood...hint-hint set up a password if you haven't already done so on your Belkin or whatever router you are currently using) and then you should be set, unless of course you have a password on your network. After you put in your password you should be ready to go. The only time it does stop working is when your computer is in sleep mode or when the computer is off. When the computer is back on, it works just as well if not better than the wireless component in my laptop. Oh, one last thing, you can either plug the adapter directly into your usb port or place it in the dock it comes with it then hook the other end of the usb cable into the usb port. The only thing I miss from my component working in my laptop is the fact you don't have something hooked up to your usb port. Enjoy!
Customer Review: Flawless Adapter Summary: 5 Stars
Got two of these adapters about two months ago when I upgraded my router to a Linksys WRT610N Simultaneous Dual-N Band Wireless Router , These Adapters have NEVER dropped the connection with the router, We have two computers in my home (Both with this Adapter), I got one in the same room as my router, and the other downstairs (behind a cement floor and one brick wall), ZERO problems so far, I get a very good signal downstairs, the computers feel like they are on a wired adapter, I Download torrents all day long and ZERO problems with the network connection.
Wireless-N it a BIG upgrade from Wireless-G, awesome speed (at least 4x Faster) and increased Range.
Range on the 2.4 Ghz is better than the 5 Ghz Band, but 5 Ghz is good to have if you live in a place with other wifi networks using the 2.4 Ghz Band (Not my care), You CAN'T use both Band simultaneously.
Windows 7 didn't require a driver for it to work (pretty cool), XP and Vista requires driver installation from the CD.
NOTE: just bought a 3rd of these adapters.
Customer Review: Works Great - No Problems (with Caveat) Summary: 5 Stars
I purchased the WUSB600N wireless network adaptor to support my 5.5 year old Sony Pentium 4. The WUSB600N is the size of a large thumb drive and it uses a USB connection on one end. It comes with a USB stand for use with desktops but can also be connected directly to laptops.
Thus far, the unit has worked great but . . . I did not install the unit as instructed by the directions. Having had problems with Linksys software on a previous wireless card, I took a hint from another reviewer and I hooked it up and used the Windows XP install hardware utility to install the unit. Just use the driver off the Linksys install CD. I use the XP wireless network connection to manage it. The Verizon wireless G router is on the second floor and I use this in the basement with no connectivity problems.
I think the WUSB600N is great, the small size takes up almost no space on my desk and the USB format means I can swap it between machines. I am completely satisfied and recommend it - with the installation caveat.
