Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Cisco-Linksys WUSB54GC Compact Wireless-G USB AdapterCustomer Review: my wireless Summary: 5 Stars
I've been online since 92 with one ISP provider. This summer we Finally got broadband. Only problem was that we could not hook up 2 computers without punching holes is ceilings and walls, which was not acceptible.
I than started researching and speaking to my "tech savy" friends(IT types)about how I could work around this house demolishing problem.
They all came up with a "wireless router" solution, different brands depending on whom you listened to. The name that came up more often was "Linksys wireless G". Well I thought ok, this is the RIGHT one to get, since I beleive in staying on budget these things came one at a time.
"No sense putting in a corvette engine into a Model T".
Point taken,I had to get a new computer!!!(working with upgraded (Win98SE).Then I got the router, had it for several months before my research turned up this adapter, originally looking for good prices on PC Wireless Cards" as I had been instructed. Printed the info I found about this Wireless-G USB Adapter for me and emailed it to my friends. Needless to say they all agreed that this was a great find and even better than the cards they'd spoken with me about. It's been instramental in aiding my supervision of my grandchildren(10&5) online. They can't get online unsupervised without it being plugged in. I have TOTAL control. This is a great addition to my computing world.
Wish I could tell you all the "techie speak" I heard about the installation of it,however I will tell you that it took less than 30 min.to get it up and running I have had no problem with it and of course it arrived in a timely manner. I recommend this for anyone that doesn't want to remodel their house for wireless. TMG
Customer Review: Plug-and-play from far away Summary: 5 Stars
Four reasons why this is a great buy:
1. Wireless-G is still faster than you need, and a great value compared to comparable Wireless-N devices. The 54 Mbps speed of Wireless-G is more than double the speed of anyone's home Internet be it cable, phone, satellite, or fiber. Increasing your wireless speed beyond 54 Mbps will have zero effect on your Internet response.
2. Linksys is the industry standard brand for home networking. It's fully supported by every PC brand, every operating system, every version. There is zero chance of incompatiblity.
3. You just plug it in, and it works. There is no need to use the installation disk or otherwise search for drivers to install. Windows already has drivers for this standard device, and can update them automatically if a newer version is ever required.
4. This device works from a distance with no issues. For my latest purchase (I have installed others in the past), this Wireless-G adapter is plugged into a rear USB port in my daughter's bedroom upstairs - up against the rear wall of our house. The WAP router to which it connects is located at the front corner of our house on the first floor. Even with doors closed, there is plenty of signal strength for full speed connectivity.
Customer Review: WORKS FLAWLESSLY Summary: 5 Stars
I have an old Dell that I relegated to the corner of the basement for my young girls to play games on. They like to go on the Disney Channel online, so I wanted to give them internet access. The computer is so old (7 years old-which is ancient by computer standards) that I wasn't sure this adapter would work. The short answer-it works flawlessly. It took me 5 minutes to get it up and running. Perfect internet connection to my home network.
It is so good in fact that I have to buy another one. I have 3 computers on my network, and I recently moved them around to different locations. My almost new HP computer, which has a built in wireless card, moved from right next to the router, to another room. After I moved it, I kept getting a very weak signal. Not sure why, but I just popped the adapter out of the old Dell and popped it into the new HP. Literally took me 2 minutes to get it going, and I now I have excellent signal strength. I now have to buy a replacement to put back in the old computer so my girls can access the internet.
I did not have any of the problems some of the other posters had, and this adapter has now worked perfectly on 2 different computers, an old one and a new one.

Linksys WUSB54GC Compact Wireless-G USB Adapter
In my opinion the Linksys routers and associated products like the WUSB54GC adapter, which is the receiver for the router signal on the satellite computer, are the best on the market. But what makes them the ONLY product to buy is their customer service. Unlike Microsoft and many other computer product companies, Linksys will happily solve your technical problems on the phone free of charge even if the product is not new. My wife got a new computer. Her old one was the satellite in my system. I could not get her new one to receive the signal. Even though the linksys router on my main computer was a few years old, Linksys told me exactly what I had to do to get it running. Never asked me how old the router was, or did I just buy it. No $45 up front charge to answer a question. This is the company with which you want to do business.
Customer Review: don't run the Linksys utility Summary: 5 Stars
The hardware works fine. Most of the complaints are from installing the Linksys utility from the CD, so don't.
I'm a 20-year PC tech and allow me to suggest:
(For this and all other wireless adapters and many printers) -- Windows and your PC don't need the Linksys wireless utility. It's just one more program running at startup and slowing your computer down. And you have to learn how it works.
Install it like this:
Insert CD & cancel the setup.
Find/note the drivers folder on the CD.
Insert the USB device.
Point the "Found New H/W Wizard" to the drivers folder for your OS on the CD.
When the Wizard finishes successfully, you're done.
Use the built-in Windows Wireless Utility.
Works great with all Windows since Windows XP with Svc Pack 2 including 64 bit versions of Vista & Win 7.
Many other Linksys USB adapters don't include Win 7 and/or 64 bit support.
