Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Cisco-Linksys WUSB54G Wireless-G USB AdapterCustomer Review: Compact Unit that is Perfect for my needs Summary: 5 Stars
I am not computer savvy and I found the Linksys WUSB54G Wireless-G USB adapter very easy to set up. And it connected immediately to my Linksys Wireless router. If I can get it to work, anyone should be able too. It is not as fast as being direct connected via wire, but it worked just great for me.
I have been very satisfied with it. I only notice the slower rate of transfer when I have a large download. But I usually use this computer just as a remote terminal and not my main computer. I find that it is fine for browsing, sending e-mails and updating websites. Note; this review does not address a situation where you may want to use it to play a graphic intensive online game. I have computers set up for gaming in another room connected to the main router.
Customer Review: Wireless as easy as it gets Summary: 5 Stars
I already have the 802.11b version of this device and got this one for my wife, who has finally seen the advantage of web surfing from your easy chair. The great thing about a USB wireless adapter is that you can move it to a better place for reception. Sitting in my chair is not the best place for reception. However, a couple feet away I get great reception. So the adapter on its USB cable goes where it picks up great reception and I get to relax in my chair. Sure, it's a bit slower than a straight PCI card, but it's more than fast enough for internet browsing and I don't do too many huge file transfers from my La-z-boy.
Installation onto a Windows 2000 Pro system was a snap. Put in the CD, connected the WUSB54G when the install told me to, and I was done.
Customer Review: Don't Buy This For TiVo! Summary: 5 Stars
This is just a correction to a review that "kish" posted a while ago, regarding compatibility with TiVo's Home Media Option.I purchased this adapter based largely on the statement "kish" made saying the beta software upgrade supported this adapter. It does not. TiVo does not support _ANY_ Wireless-G adapters. Period. What "kish" is referring to is actually the WUSB11 USB Adapter, also manufactured by Linksys, which is an 802.11b device. The firmware version 2.6 is currently supported by TiVo, and the 2.8 is supported pending a beta software update available from TiVo (you can request it for free from TiVo's website). So, please, don't buy this product for TiVo. I'm sure they'll eventually add support for Wireless-G products in the future, but it's not there yet.
Customer Review: Easy Wireless Access for Desktop Summary: 5 Stars
First we installed the Linksys WUSB54G Wireless-G USB adapter on the workstation in the same room as the Linksys 2.4 GHz 802.11b Model WAP11 Access point and our internet experience was equivalent to our previous wired experience. Next we moved the workstation with the WUSB54G USB Adapter several rooms away. At first the connection was weak until we raised the adapter and pointed the antenna toward the wireless access point several rooms. We taped the adapter to the window frame so the antenna would stay pointed toward the wireless access point and the connection is consistent and fast. The adapter is very light so is is easy to tape it in place. ( Taping the adapter in place would prevent the cats from playing hockey with the adapter. )
Customer Review: works fine in XP Summary: 5 Stars
I had no problem getting this to work in XP Home Edition (with USB 2.0, and a Linksys wireless-G access point). It uses USB power, so no extra hassle with a power supply, and it's very small (it comes with two-sided tape to keep it nailed down if needed --- it's THAT small). Through 4 walls in my home I get a signal of "very good" which has been perfectly adequate for my needs. It works OK for online gaming (I tried Call of Duty), except that I get occassional interruptions which I have since discovered are due to a mouse and keyboard also using the USB pipeline. I'd go with a PCI device for a lot of gaming, otherwise the sheer convenience of this adapter is hard to beat.
