Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Cisco-Linksys WUSB54G Wireless-G USB AdapterCustomer Review: It worked just fine. Summary: 5 Stars
This installation went really smoothly. There were not hiccups or surprises at all.
At the start of the installation the first thing I noticed was a big orange label on the adapter package that said, "RUN CD FIRST before connecting the Device to your PC." This seemed pretty much status quo in my experience in installing USB hardware so I did what it said.
I installed the software and did not connect the adapter until the installation instructions said to do so.
Well, when I connected the adapter it was immediately recognized by my system and it installed without any problems.
During the installation it also recognized the other couple of networks in my neighborhood as it should have.
The user interface installed with the software seems to be pretty intuitive.
I don't know if it matters much but my router is also a Linksys product.
So, there you have it. The installation took about 5 minutes and the adapter worked just fine.
Customer Review: Let Windows configure it silly!!! Summary: 5 Stars
I started with the 'b' adapter and upgraded to the 'g'. In between, I bought the 'brand new super-cool' Hawking Hi-Gain wireless g card with the neat little swivel antenna....I can't even get a signal in my house! And it's SUPPOSED to expand your range up to 300%. At least with my old Linksys b USB adapter, I could get a signal inside and still go online and have good speeds!
Needless to say, don't let all the newfangled 'hi-gain' gadgets catch your eye....they don't really do what they're supposed to do!
Having to sit on my deck in 100+ degree weather to go online sucks!
With Hawking, their driver 'takes over' and won't let any other adapters work because you HAVE to turn off the Windows Zero Configuration for it to even work!
With Linksys, forget the driver disk! Just plug it in and let Windows XP configure it and it works right away...it picked up all the info it needed for our secured network and ALWAYS worked!
Customer Review: Installed quickly, strong signal reception Summary: 5 Stars
I followed the Quick Install Guide instructions (to run the enclosed CD first, before attaching the USB device) on a WinXP machine. This procedure ran flawlessly and very quickly.
I already have several machines on the combination wired/wireless network in my house, all connecting to a four-year-old Linksys WRT54G router. After I configured the USB wireless device to connect to my encrypted network (only an additional handful of minutes-- I use WEP due to the age of my router, and I use MAC filtering) it connected perfectly.
Even though I have thick plaster walls and the machine with the new USB card is on the second floor, while the router/WAP is on the first floor, the signal is very strong. Now the Internet speeds on this machine are right in step with the rest of my computers. Easy, fast, no need to open the case (though I don't mind doing so) and a great deal, IMO.
Customer Review: Better than expected. Summary: 5 Stars
My HP Pavillion Laptop's wireless went out on me a few months back and i was so frustrated. I could still use the internet if i use an ethernet cable. But it was not portable anymore. So i started looking around and came upon this wireless adapter. I read some reviews and decided to just order it and take my chances. I'm so glad i bought it. I got it to work within half an hour because i entered the wrong wep code. Be sure to install the driver before using. It works flawlessly and gave me excellent reception. I've been using this since yesterday (12/09) so i'll update this within a few weeks and let you know how it's going. :)
It's 3/31/10 and I've been using this wireless adapter for almost four months. It still works great. I definitely recommend this wireless adapter.
Customer Review: Linksys Wireless G adapter Summary: 5 Stars
I purchased the Wireless G because it is so much faster than B and the USB allows me to plug into any computer and use it and the cable between the USB port and the adapter allows me to position the adapter so I can get the best signal.
Initially after installing the software, I could not get the unit to connect to my wireless router. It took a while to find out that the drivers which shipped with the unit were not current. I had to go to Linksys' web site and download the most current drivers for this unit and it now works great. I am very pleased with the speed.
Great unit and was delivered promptly and was cheap.
Save yourself some time and headaches and download the drivers from Linksys' web site.
Very pleased.
