Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Cisco-Linksys WTR54GS Wireless G Travel Router with SpeedboosterCustomer Review: Nice size ran hot Summary: 4 Stars
Good size for traveling, did run hot and had problems with WEP. Once running it was great to pay for one connection and have 2 laptops on line in two different hotel rooms (nearby).
Customer Review: Compact travel router but install took troubleshooting Summary: 3 Stars
This wireless router is a very convenient size and configuration, but the setup wasn't transparent. I expected it to be "plug and play", but my notebook computer couldn't find the wireless network at first. It took several attempts and playing with the software configuration to make it work. The documentation and instructions should be expanded to incorporate more information or the CD should walk you through it when you run it. Functionally, however, this is a nice little router for travelers. Just try it at home before a trip so you won't be frustrated on the road.
Customer Review: Good but not great Summary: 3 Stars
There is nothing wrong with this product. It does what it is supposed to do, but I think it is a little too complicated to set up and therefore would not recommend it. Linksys could do better on their software set up program. First of all, you should be able to download it when you have an internet connection and they should not expect you to have a cd or they should store the software on a rom inside the device.
It should be easier.
Customer Review: Worked great for 1 year Summary: 3 Stars
Worked great for 1 year, I thought I could use this at home all the tme beasue of my space limitation. It lasted 1 year and burned out. If you just use it for tarveling you will be fine.
Customer Review: Disappointed... Summary: 2 Stars
Bought this item a little over a year now. I held off on writing a review regarding this product until it got a little use...
At first it worked great and proved to be very convenient in it's form-factor and functionality. The signal strength was excellent. It also provided WEP encryption for a secure network. Unfortunately, around 6 months of uninterrupted continual use, it suddenly stopped working.
Linksys offers a 1 year's guarantee on this product. Knowing this, I called Linksys and went through all of their troubleshooting steps. I followed the steps precisely, and finally the tech-support deemed the router faulty. B/c it was faulty, they let me return it on the warranty.
BTW, if you have to return it on the warranty, be sure to keep the shipping paper that Amazon gives you stating the purchase of this item... for warranty purposes (helpful tip).
I sent the item back on Dec. 24th, 2006 and am still waiting for them to receive it! It is now Jan. 26th, 2007 and not one acknowledgment of receipt. So, that is why I am reviewing this item, and mentioning my disgust. I will provide an update to this review if I get a working travel router back, but until then I will not recommend the travel router to anyone.
