Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Cisco-Linksys WRT610N Simultaneous Dual-N Band Wireless Router

Customer Review: Excellent Router, Easy Setup
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this router for it's ability to work in both 2.4 and 5 ghz simultaneously. This feature is great as I still have some wireless G components connected to my wireless network. It's definitely worth the extra $$ for this feature. Setup was very easy using the setup CD that comes with it. I've been using it for about two weeks now with zero problems.

One item to note. Comcast customers that are on the "Triple Play" and have the RCA modem that manages the internet and the VoIP service, you will need to make sure you fully re-set the modem using a pen or paper clip in the reset button on the back of the modem. This modem has a battery back up for the phone service and does not fully reset by solely unplugging the modem and plugging it back in. The router will not be able to find the internet connection until this is done. Once I reset my modem, I power cycled the router and all was fine. This was the only glitch I encountered and had nothing to do with the router itself.

Customer Review: Best router I've ever owned but not for everyone
Summary: 5 Stars

I was pretty intimidated by the reviews for this product due to the number of people saying this router is bad. But this router has been extremely solid since I first set it up a few weeks ago. I have not had to reset it at all and can handle 12 people (LAN party) on wireless, along with all the hardwired ports being filled - all without breaking a sweat (and of course it can handle way more than that).

I recommend updating the firmware as soon as possible so as to not run into any problems that have already been addressed. And I also do not advise people who are unfamiliar with setting up routers to purchase this. It is somewhat complicated as there are more options on this thing than the usual router comes with. It needs to be tweaked to work properly with your network and the software that it comes with is pretty useless. If you know how to access the router directly and can adjust settings manually, then you will one of the most powerful home routers working for you.

Customer Review: Router upgrade time!
Summary: 5 Stars

I finally decided to bite the bullet and upgrade my WRT54G router. I liked the fact that this one has an internal antenna rather than the external antenna like on my old router. It does run a bit hotter than I'd like it to, making me wonder just how long this is going to work before it dies. It's also a lot better looking than my old router. My connection is very strong, but considering I had little to no problem with my last router, I wasn't expecting dropped connections, the need for resets, or weak signals.

Best of all, I love the fact that it does simultaneous streaming on two different wireless n bands. I've found that I have faster access and file transfer from my Netgear ReadyNAS Duo 2-Bay 500 GB (1 x 500 GB) Network Attached Storage RND2150. Anything that can help me save time is a great help this year since I've been extremely busy.

Customer Review: So far so good
Summary: 5 Stars

This router solved ALL my Xbox (NAT Strict) problems, I read a few reviews where people recommend the DD-WRT firmware, which actually worked. After adding all the ports in the port forwarding section (this didn't work) I decided to delete them all and only enable the UPnP function in the Gaming and applications section, this did the trick and I have now the NAT open. Please make sure you apply changes before running any test, since the Save changes key only saves them but for some reason it doesn't apply the changes.

All along it might have worked with Port Forwarding but I NEVER pressed the apply changes option......
I have owned this router for two weeks and so far so good....

Good luck and enjoy the router!!!

UPDATE

I have to enable and disable the UPnP option everytime I want to play Xbox Live, to open the NAT, this is a little tedious but as long as it works I don't care.

Customer Review: A Great Buy
Summary: 5 Stars

This is probably one of the best routers that I have used. I had no trouble getting it installed. One of the things that I bought it for was the NAS connection on the back. This allows you to plug in a USB drive and access it from amywhere in the network. It works great. I gave the ease of setup rating only 3 stars because I had a terrible time getting this to work. I don't find anywhere in the documantation that tells you that it has to be formatted FAT32. I initially formatted it as NTFS and got no setup errors - it just didn't work. I eventually found a forum post somewhere that said it has to be FAT32. I recommend that you let the router itself format the drive (there is an option in the configuration panel). Once that is done it works like a charm. I keep all my music on a small USB drive connected to the router. That way I can play the music anywhere in the house (with a Sonos system) even with the computer off. Way cool.
