Customer Review: Finally a Linksys USB Router that works as advertised
Summary: 5 Stars

I am currently using wrt350n with dd-wrt as the default firmware is pure crap. When WRT600N was introduced I tested and immediately returned it as the media server portion of the firmware was still the same mess as WRT350N. With this router Linksys incorporated Twonky Media Server (Currently 4.4) in their firmware. I am not sure whether the previous media srever was the same but this version really works. I am using a 750GB external hard disk in a windows xp environment without any issues. From a PS3 the media server does not work, but I think that's a known issue with that version of twonky and PS3 and for that you need a later version of twonky installed like 5.x that is still in beta. However as its integrated in router you will have to wait for it to come in a new firmware for the device. So if you stream through PS3 you are out of luck.

The USB transfer speed from the network is still very slow.

The router piece works fine. I have seen no disconnects. I have only g-based clients so cannot comment on disconnects that the others reported based on n-clients.

Customer Review: Linksys WRT610N sensational
Summary: 5 Stars

Once I received the Linsys WRT610N it was unpacked and installed within minutees. That is complete, including the full WEP2 protection protocal. This was on my work HP tablet which only uses the 2.4GH G. The most impressive thing was how much faster the internet loaded and the Google search engine processed and worked.

Then I tried streaming music from my Time Warner Cable Roadrunner network home page. OMG no interuptions no buffering laps.

Then a week later my new HP dv9700 arrived with an ABGN wireless adapter and 2.5GH processer and the connection speed is 130 Mbps. WOW now that's fast.

The most important thing about the Dual-N Band is that my wife will be working on files from her work at home on her lap top also with an ABGN adapter and I will be working on my work laptop with the ABG adapter and we will have no issues. Then the phone rings with the 2.4 GHZ processor and no issues either.

I would highly recommend this product to anyone who has multiple wireless products that most of us all have at home today.

Customer Review: Trash until you update the firware! Then it works beautifully! ;-)
Summary: 5 Stars

What's great about it: Every option you need/want!
What's not so great: The fact that it's trash until you UPDATE the firmware, then it works PERFECT!

"Please DO NOT rate the device until you update the firmware!

The router may be TRASH (drop connection every few seconds/minutes) unless you update the firmware. Hey, I was upset about it too until I did some reading on their website which lets you know it's a problem until you UPDATE the FIRMWARE. After you update the firmware, it's beautiful!

I had a D-Link DIR 825 and switched to this and loving it! The Linksys has more features too, which is awesome. The D-Link was good too."

Now, I just wish I could smack the person in charge of sending these units out without the latest firmware update. I also wish I could do the same with those not updating it first and bad mouthing the router before flashing it. Linksys tells you on the website how to fix the problem. I guess people don't read these days.

Would you recommend this product to a friend?: Yes

Customer Review: Very pleased with my purchase
Summary: 5 Stars

I upgraded from the Linksys WRT54G. My wifi coverage and strength on the G band is better now with the upgrade. I had a weak spot in part of my house using my old router and the 610N gave me better wifi service in that area of my home. Also I have an AppleTV which can use the N standard and I put that on the N band of my new router and thus took it off the G band and that worked out better too because it seemed to free up bandwidth for my remaining G devices.

As a suggestion, be sure to play around with the different configuration options to see which gives you the best wifi service. For me, with mixed devices, G and N, I set up the wifi on the new router thusly:

N band: 40MHz only.
G band: 20MHz only.

The "wide channel" of both bands is set to "auto".

Also it is important to have different names for the names of your two networks (SSID). At first I made the mistake of using the same name for both SSID's and it caused problems. Separate names solved it.

Conclusion: happy I made the upgrade.

Customer Review: increases range and simple to install
Summary: 5 Stars

I have had a linksys router WRT54GS v.4 for a couple of years now and have been happy with it - until I got an iphone and discovered that it loses the network signal in the part of the house which is the furthest from the router (60-80 feet and two floors). The router location is fixed because it needs to be next to the comcast internet modem. I considered buying an signal expander for about $50 but, apparently, it tends to diminish the signal strength overall while extending the range. I opted for the linksys top of the line which claims to extend the range further and, in addition, make it possible to connect a hard drive for backups over the network. I have not yet tried this other function yet, but I can say that the new router, WRT610N, extends the signal nicely to cover the entire house. It also increases security.
The setup was very simple and took about 30 minutes. One piece of advice. Follow the instructions and reset the modem by disconnecting it from the power and cable. After I've done that, it was clear sailing.
Five stars.
