Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Cisco-Linksys WRT610N Simultaneous Dual-N Band Wireless RouterCustomer Review: Fantastic Router! Summary: 5 Stars
This a fantastic router!
Do not be misled by all the negative reviews. But, be sure you really need and can use all this thing can provide. I'm sure there are simpler and cheaper routers around, but in my case the price, performance and feature mix was the best.
I did end up spending over 2 days tweaking this unit to get it to perform as advertised. But, it has now been working flawlessly for over 2 months.I've got 8 pc's hooked into this thing, 3 wired and 5 wireless. I'm streaming video to every pc in every corner of my house (over 3,500 sq ft). Slowest connect speed is 243 Mbps, most are 270 or 300 Mbps. Interestingly, the PC farthest away gets the fastest link.
My network is now all Linksys N devices, so that may explain things. But during my transition phase, I had both 802.11g and 802.11n devices connecting at greater than standard G speeds.
This is not a Plug and Pray device, this thing means business. Do your reasearch. If you are uncomfortable with flashing bios, tweaking settings and getting your hands dirty, then this may not be for you. But, if you need a high speed, fully configurable router, this is it!
Customer Review: No problems with WRT610N Summary: 5 Stars
I purchased this unit about six months ago. The first two things I did where upgrade the firmware and use the disk to set up the router initially.
I have a Time Warner 20MB modem connection to the net. I also have a VOIP ATA device attached to one of the ports on the router.
Once that was done I turned off the broadcast ID, turned on MAC ID filtering and WEP security. I have connected five computers all wireless. One desktop, One Windows Media Center Server, three notebooks. All on the 2.4 side.
Also I have an xBox 360 Elite hooked up wireless as well.
I also have added two linksys WET610N wireless bridges which are attached to two DISH Network 722 DVR units. I have also attached a network storage device.
I have had zero problems with drop offs or speed issue of any kind. I can stream any media from my Media Center PC without any issues. The router itself in located in the basement on a 72" rack. I watch netflix streaming through my xbox without any delay or issues. Also, I can do mulit-player online gaming and I experience no latency what so ever.
For me this has worked great.

I think things have changed. The reviews I've read prior to purchase said NOT to use the accompanied software to set it up. Now they include a "temporary" copy of their Network Magic software to help you install it. It expires in seven days, but it was a breeze to use to get the network set up. I plugged in the CD and followed the steps. It explains everything clearly. What your choices are and what the consequences of each choice is. It really took about 5-10 minutes to get it up and running.
I choose to enable lock out. So to get my PS3 in the loop I had to plug the information into it and get it searching for a network and get the router looking for other things to add simultaneously. Once they found each other I re-enabled lock out.
I plan to go ahead and pay the $40 to keep Network Magic. It not only helped to set up the network but it has other functions that I think are worth it. Montioring, tracking usage, tracking intrusion, reports on usage. It can take snapshots on demand or at predetermined intervals of other computers history in your network.
Great product with great software!
Customer Review: Works great Summary: 5 Stars
I was using a Belkin Pre-N router, but it began to fail, sometimes dropping out 4 or 5 times in an hour. So decided to replace it with this Linksys unit. I am most pleased, it set up with the very easy instructions and worked the first try. I had to redo my printer software installation for printer to work wirelessly, but it wasn't difficult.
I like how the router EasyLink software functions, with either a list view of my network, or how I like it, a graphical view that shows all the links to the router, from all my laptops and pc and printer. If any unknown intruder link were to appear, it would be obvious and visible to me so I can cut it off.
The dual band reception is a nice extra, I have one laptop using the 2.4 band and the other uses the 5 band. I get a better signal with the 2.4 here at home though.
So far, the only time I have had a problem was when the power went out for a few minutes, it made everything reset, and seemed a long time to restore my connection, but that most likely was caused by my internet cable modem restarting.
All in all I am very satisfied with the router and would recommend it.
Customer Review: Works fine - no issues. Summary: 5 Stars
The only trouble I had was I had to power cycle the cable modem and router a few times to get the IP addresses assigned / in sync, but after that, everything worked right off the bat (well, except for LELA, but more on that below). Iphone, PS3, XBOX360, Netbook all connected without issue with WPA2 security enabled.
IMPORTANT, as many others have stated, upgrade your firmware first, but what most overlook is that you also need to update LELA (Linksys EasyLink Advisor) to the current version which you can get off of the Linksys website. The original version on the CD had an error during install - complaining that I didn't have Microsofts .net3.0 framework installed.(I actually had 3.5 installed with SP1). It then left the icon on the system tray with a red circle with a line threw it indicating an error. After uninstalling and installing the new version, no issue. LELA isn't really needed if you are an advanced user, but it is still fun to mess around with, and actually is what made me finally decide to purchase this router over the many competing models (I like bells and whistles).
