Customer Review: Promising but like all Draft-N routers...not up to speed
Summary: 5 Stars

I just bought a new Asus laptop with N capabilities and wanted to realize its full capabilities. Did some research and discovered that a lot of people have trouble with the Intel chipset and the earliest N routers as they were only operating at the 2.4GHz. I can't vouch for those issues but this router certainly delivers the speed. My wife's old laptop connects at 54MBs, while mine connects at ~270MBs. Signal strength is excellent throughout my house on the 5GHz band. Setup was a breeze. It comes with some software but I never installed it. The menu is pretty straightforward and easy to configure, just going from screen to screen. I haven't tried the storage link functionality yet but just got that for future possibilities.

Update: 1/5/08 - As a commenter pointed out, the speed the computer lists is NOT what you are really getting. I downloaded DUMeter to monitor download speeds and never saw anything >5MB/s actual speed. I can't lower the rating on this item but would definitely lower it to 1-2 stars based on the price...

Customer Review: bought it and loved it since!

i was looking to upgrade to the next wireless standard and reviewed quite a few products and i'm happy to say that this purchase is solid for my first linksys buy dated 4/7/08, out of the box...it functions well as advertised. basic setup was straight forward and the console is the usual...web base, once you've seen one they are similar in getting around to configure, and the router looks great too...stealthy. there is a lot of features that most home users are not gonna use, but its nice to have when needed. tinkering around with the settings to tailor your needs after you tried out the defaults. currently on the 5ghz settings, 40 mhz channel @ 5.2 ghz for n adapters only and the 2ghz settings, 20 mhz channel @ 2.462 ghz for g only adapters. both are setup with wpa2-personal/aes encryption/36 sec renewal. i'm connecting at 270 mbps most of the time while using the wec600n adapter...what i would like, is the capability to restart the device remotely...but thats minor.

Customer Review: works great and looks great

I could not wait to install the Linksys WRT600n. Fortunately, I have a friend in my company IT department who helped me install this unit and my home network. This made things very easy. Once the unit was installed I noticed immediately that internet speeds increased tremedously, not only over my wifi network but on the hard wired network as well. I was using an older g wifi router from D-Link. The dual band work as described and the network security was very easy to set up. My laptop and other wifi applications noticed the network quickly and was very easy to setup.

The only draw back was that the software that came with the Linksys kept telling me that it did not recognize the unit and asked that it be turned on. The thing is that it was turned on and working. Other than that I am enjoying gaming online, and have found that I can be a good distance from the unit and still am receiving signal. I would highly recommend.

Customer Review: Outstanding performance, excellent setup guide, great range
Summary: 5 Stars

This unit performed beyond expectation; I'm writing this on an inexpensive laptop some 50 feet from the transmitter. Setup was unexpectedly simple, thanks to genuinely helpful and instructive step-by-step clearly illustrated guidance (in actual English) from the installation CD. Worked the first time around.

Not so good is the companion dual-band USB receiver that is virtually useless with desktops. Don't be fooled by the glowing picture on the box of all-around the house reception. This unit works best with laptops having builtin WiFi capability.

Worth noting (and not clearly indicated) is that setup is for Windows machines only. Mac users are out of luck. On-line help is an atrocious 'Catch-22' with no way of email interaction with tech help [try asking for help setting up a Mac]. Overall, an outstanding Windows router - fully deserving of PCWorld's top ranking.

This is my first wireless router and I must say that it's fantastic. I didn't need any help (from customer service) to set it up and I've had it for a little while now (over a year and a half). I didn't even experience the slightest of problems that so many people have been complaining about (even though I've heard mostly good things about this router before I got it). And I feel that much more auspicious because I got it for a lot less than its MSRP. Everything I own that has wireless capabilities is connected to it and I rarely have connection problems (pertaining to the router itself). I also like the design as it reminds me of the beautiful PS3 black piano glossy finish, which is also the same texture my TV has (the Sony Bravia XBR-Series KDL-52XBR5 52-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV is the set that I own, which is also my first HDTV and I think it's perfect just like me and my original 60gb PS3).
