Customer Review: Negative reviews are outdated - ver 3 is great
Summary: 5 Stars

I needed to connect two networks located in separate buildings about 60' apart. Each network had two Linksys WRT54Gs, several wired PC's, and a broadband Internet connection. The objective was to eliminate one of the Internet links - accomplished by installing the WET54G on one network and a wireless access point (WAP) on the network in the other building dedicated to the bridge.

I used the web interface for setup. Two areas that initially caused me some problems:

- DHCP didn't come through the WET54G with a weak signal from the WAP; reducing the distance to about 75' improved the signal to 70%, which solved this.
- When configuring the WET54G, it was necessary for me to explicitly set the IP address of my PC to something in the same subnet as the WET54G. After completing setup, I had to change the PC back to DHCP.

The existing wireless routers were on channel 11, so I configured the bridge-WAP to channel 6. As hoped, the bridge was transparent to users of both workgroups.

Customer Review: Linksys Bridge WET54G

I purchased this bridge because I had previously purchased the LG Blu-ray player with Netflix streaming. I didn't realize the Blu-ray had to be physically linked to my router or modem to work.
Long story short, this did the trick, but not without the wonderful support person from Linksys. I'm not the most highly technical person when it comes to networking, even though I spent years in an IT department. I tried to setup the router without help but I made a couple of mistakes and didn't know how to correct them. I tried running the setup again, but it wouldn't let me change some of the crucial settings. I contacted Linksys through their live chat. I got right on with a tech person and we had the settings corrected and the bridge up and running in about 45 minutes. I've always had great support from Linksys in the past and this was exceptional service. And best of all, now my Blu-ray player can work with Netflix streaming and I have a stronger wireless signal when my computer is downstairs near the bridge.

Customer Review: The perfect solution for a remote office, especially with Linux
Summary: 5 Stars

Everyone in our house uses computers a lot. We can't all be in the same room and a wireless card for each desktop computer would be more expensive. With the wireless bridge, we can have multiple computers in a remote locate (with a small switch) sharing the wireless connection.

Some computers run Linux and I didn't want to mess with trying to get a wireless card to work in Linux. So this gives better flexibility and is cheaper than buying a wireless card for each desktop computer, which is not right next to the router. If you don't have one already, buy a small (4-port) switch to go with the bridge to share the connection with multiple computers.

I thought about getting the N protocol router and bridge, but decided against it to save money because G is faster than the cable modem. For browsing the web, I can't tell the difference between using this versus a cable to the router. The bottle neck is the cable or DSL connection, not the wireless protocol (G vs N).

Customer Review: Great bridge; priced a bit high

I was an early adoptor of wireless what seems nearly a decade ago, and have used Linksys products exclusively, and have helped friends and family use other products.

This was the easiest intallation of any Linksys product I've ever used (seven of them). I bought the brige to hook my young kid's Win98 machine to noggin.com.

I use a different IP range than the defaults (not 192.168.1.x). So for installation: I changed my router back to the default (192.168.1.1) and rebooted; then browsed the brigde (192.168.1.226) and used admin/admin as the username and password (most Linksys products use a blank for user id). I configured the bridge to my desired IP, and set my WEP security. I set my router back, and rebooted again.

I then hooked the bridge up to the Win98 machine; and was done! (I never used the CD)

PS. This was much easier than dealing with Win98 drivers on a wireless card; and, I'm able to place the antenna up higher than the CPU.

Customer Review: This simple device saved the day

Our iMac 20" internal wireless card failed. After working with Apple to get it corrected, they said "sure we can get it fixed for $$$$". Shipping + repair costs got me thinking about other ways to solve this issue. How can I used my wired interface to connect to the mac to my network?

Fortunately, linksys pulled through with the solution. The WET54G did the trick without software to install and very little fuss. The entire setup process took only a few minutes to setup. Using the web interface, I was able to configure the WET54G to talk to my hidden WPA wireless network. After that, there has not been anything to do. When the MAC boots, it has no idea it is talking through a bridge to the internet. The behavior has been seemless.

I recommend this for anyone that has a lone workstation that needs to talk across a reasonable distance to a wireless hub. It is easy to use and works as advertised.
