Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Cisco-Linksys EZXS55W EtherFast 10/100 5-Port Workgroup Switch

Customer Review: Easy to use
Summary: 5 Stars

The switch works great! I'm connected to an old work router (probably decades old, I don't know as I don't have access to it) and get the full connection speed (100Mb). I had a Netgear GS105A (1Gb switch) that wouldn't negotiate properly with the old work router, but this one works like a charm!

I wish they would have explained the uplink/port5 deal in the instructions, but as far as I can tell, Uplink is a duplicate of Port 5 (there are 6 ports with 1-4 always available, ports 5 and 6 (uplink) are only available one at a time) such that Uplink is to be used when connecting to another switch with a straight cable (instead of a crossover cable). So the Uplink port does a manual crossover - which seems pretty useless to me since most newer technology auto-senses the cable and end point connection - so a manual crossover port isn't needed.

Customer Review: Switch Does The Job
Summary: 5 Stars

Great switch and works.

I have only minimal knowledge about networks. All I wanted was my Tivo box to connect to my computer upstairs via a network cable, with an extra port provided by the switch downstairs for a computer to act as a media center to control stored tv programs and movies. I briefly read the manual online (to see which outlet was the upstream outlet), plugged in the cables, and the box worked without any need to reboot the Tivo, or alter any setting on the modem, router, or switch.

Network has been stable since setting it up, and problem free.

Network is comprised of Linksys/Cisco broadband router, a Linksys/Cisco wireless hub which is connected to the switch via a cable since the wireless link would not stay stable to permit a whole program to transfer via Tivo Desktop.

Customer Review: Drop it in and see the speed boost
Summary: 5 Stars

I have had an aging 10mbps linksys hub as the core of my small home network for several years. Even though I was happy with it, I bought one of these, primarily because it was cheap and thought having a 'spare' couldn't hurt.

I had no idea how much that aging piece of equipment was slowing down my network! Almost everything I have now is 10/100, so dropping in this switch made my whole network a heck of a lot faster. Furthermore, as a switch (as opposed to a hub), it is much more efficient with the use of the network - traffic isn't broadcast everywhere, only to the nodes that need it.

I am VERY happy with this purchase. Cheap, fast, and drop-in simple installation to my existing network. I decided to purchase another as a 'spare' and donate my older hub to history.

Customer Review: Great For Xbox 360 and Computers
Summary: 5 Stars

This is a great switch... and for Xbox Live... Very easy to setup just plug your modem into the switch and the rest of your computers and power it on.. and it works.. But I have had some people think that this will imporve your internet speed no it does not it shares your internet speed. but it does help by retransmitting packts and helps performance. Like for example this thing is great with Xbox Live becuase maybe it is laging what this switch does is improve that lag sure it still might be slow but it helps it be less noticable.. AT LEAST FOR ME IT HAS.. So try it out it works great and it is not that much $$$ Linksys EZXS55W EtherFast 10/100 5-Port Workgroup Switch

Customer Review: Does what it said it would
Summary: 5 Stars

I got mine as part of a kit (Linksys Switched 10/100 Network in a Box) which included the EZXS55W, 2 ethernet cards, 2 cables, and the manuals and software stuff... It works like a charm on my network under Windows98 - it's actually hard to tell when you're on another computers hard drive - it's that fast! (One thing it's not, however, is a router... It works fine for sharing an internet connection with computers running modems, but you can't share a DSL connection...I recently signed up for a DSL hookup and the phone company guys said I had to replace my Linksys EZXS55W switch with a Linksys BEFSR41 Cable/DSL Router.) If you just want to network some home computers together and share a single internet modem connection though, this unit is well worth the money.
