Customer Review: Not your provider's modem...the Linksys is probably better!

I have used the CM100 for about a month now. Compared to the modem provided by Time Warner, this one clocks download speeds that are at least four times faster than the highest I ever clocked previously. (I used SpeedTest.net) for my testing. So far the product is great but woe is you if you have Time Warner.
I've heard Cablevision automatically detects a new modem and lets you switch to it instantly. I hear Comcast merely requires a phone call. TW? You would think I was asking them run a new line to my home. I was bounced back and forth between the local and national support centers until I found someone who actually understood what I wanted. Tip: These requests can only be handled at the local office. If you get bounced to national, go back to local.
To facilitate my change of MAC address, the local support person had to fill out a form. He indicated that it would take 72 hours. I was incredulous. He then told me that I should call him back personally because he didn't think anyone else in the office was competent to handle the request. He was right. I couldn't reach him again and despite repeated phone calls and more bouncing between local and national it took over a week for me to suddenly have service. I only knew because my TW modem suddenly wouldn't connect and I was able to obtain a connection with my new Linksys.
A day later, I had a curt voicemail from TW instructing me to immediately return their modem or I would be charged. Lest you think such poor customer service is restricted to Time Warner's consumer services, I can tell you from my professional experiences that their commercial service is no better. These guys need to feel some pain from competition. Maybe then they will hire managers capable of running a department with accountability and support metrics. Unfortunately, I have a long wait until Verizon FiOS is available in my neighborhood.
