Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Lasonic LTA-260 ATSC Digital to Analog TV Converter BoxCustomer Review: Did the trick! Easy installation, & works great Summary: 5 Stars
I have an old flat-screen (not flat panel) Apex TV (c. 2003) with an analogue tuner, so I needed a converter box to keep receiving over the air after the switch. So, I used by $40 rebate card and ordered this on Amazon (it was $49.99 at the time; appears to have gone up!).
Installation was easy. It was a matter of putting batteries in the remote, unplugging my antenna from the TV and plugging it into the product, and then connecting the product to the TV with a coax cable (included). I didn't need to buy an RCA cable (though you can use one), and I still get all of the same channels...and more.
I had expected for this device to simply give me the same thing I had been getting: same channels, just via a "digital" instead of "analogue" signal. Well, what I got was a sharper picture on every channel that I had previously received, and I even picked up some new channels! The device also tells you the program being watched, it's duration, and the maturity rating (like on satellite). The remote seems to work fine, and I haven't experienced any delay in switching channels.
I also noticed that my TV's remote will power-on the device when I use it to turn on my TV, and that my TV's remote controls its volume as well. (This just happened; I didn't program anything).
Some notes: the TV has to be set to channel 3, and then the device's remote is used to change channels (like with VCRs). Also, with a digital signal, bad reception shows up as a pixelated picture and audio cut-out (not fuzziness or color distortion, as with analogue). If you experience this, adjust the antenna: it's not that the product is defective!
