Customer Review: Slow transfer speeds

This is my second LaCie Rugged drive. The first was a 120GB unit, which I've had for about 2 years, and still works perfectly. However, the copy speeds on this new 500GB drive are extremely slow. They are advertised as "up to 400 Mbits/s" on FireWire 400, and "up to 480 Mbits/s" on USB 2.0. The best I've been able to achieve on the drive is between 300KB/s and 400KB/s doing a manual backup of several directories. So far, it has taken approximately 20 hours to back up 6 of those directories. This drive reminds me of the old slow floppy disk backups that used to be such a hassle. I have several backup drives from different manufacturers, and this is by far, the slowest of them all. If it were possible to give this drive a zero rating, I would. I've had 3 of these drives (in various sizes) and have had countless problems with them on my OSX machines. Some don't mount, others mount, but then disappear during file transfers, the USB connection has failed on two of them and the third has lost firewire 400 now. I'm amazed they're still selling them. If it was just a case of one drive having problems on one machine, I could write it off as a bad drive, but three on three separate computers? I've had other Lacie drives, but I'll never buy these ones again.Customer Review: WARNING-PRICE CHANGING

WARNING-eek Technology posted a cheaper price than what is listed here. They made a mistake and posted a lower price. I bought 2 at the mistake price. They did not like the fact that THEY made a mistake and i bought the hard drives at the mistake price. So the next day they cancelled my order and changed the price to a higher price and will not honor my purchase at their lower price. Don't waste you money on this one.
Tech support is hogwash and they don't back the product.
Read the small print before buying and see the hoops you must jump through if HD doesn't work properly. They know you'll give up and will not waste the time.
Costco will back the product but unfortunately, I didn't buy mine there. Amazon will not be responsible after 30 days and I'm not faulting them. I fault LaCIE for not backing their product

I bought it just before a long trip, and discovered while away that this is a piece of junk: mine too came with 9.99MB NTFS partition. From a puchased 500GB? Where exactly is the quality control? Unbelievable.
Junk. Don't bother, unless you enjoy russian roulette type quality control
