This hard drive has gotten some mixed press, but I ordered two (My wife and I are both geeks and we always get two of the newest cool toys) both drives have functioned well, my wife's has survived her sorting music on and off and shuffling it around endlessly on her drive; and mine has survived being filled nearly to capacity with video files that I have had scattered around the network. Drives work at about average speed, run well and not too hot or noisy, and boy do they look sleek sitting there on the desk all shiny and black!Customer Review: Fast and Easy

I use firewire on this LACIE 1TB product and it typically takes up to 3 min. to transfer an 8GB movie onto my Macbook Pro and when I USB, it takes up to 5 mins.-so I'm pretty impressed with its speed and ease of just click and dragging files for transfer while multi-tasking on my laptop. And even after the fact that I've taken this on my military deployments and it has taken a little beating in my check-in luggage, it has proven its durability and I continue to depend on it for my movies and music. Bought this to back up my system and free up some space on my hard drive. worked right out of the box and did what it was suppose to do - truly plug and play.
PRO: amazing price for the storage allowed. beautiful design that is low in profile, yet sophisticated and sleek.
CON: short USB cable. if buying, might want to invest in a longer USB cable - unless you are going to keep it next to your computer.
overall, very good product for what i needed it and for its price.

I was a little nervous about buying this hard drive since it only connects via USB. I have to say that my concern was unwarranted, since this hard drive was quick to back up the first time I used it. On top of that, I was pleasantly surprised how well my Mac OS 10.5.6 recognized the hard drive, it works superbly well with "timemachine". Also, the design is so sleek and elegant that enjoy seeing it on my desk--something you cannot say about so many other hard drives I have seen on the market.Customer Review: A good quiet reliable drive

I have 2 of these drives and I've just ordered the third one. They're reliable and very quiet. I've been using LaCie drives for almost 3 years, starting with the 500 gb drives. They've been great.
I did have one drive stop working about a year ago and I called LaCie support and they decided it was the power supply and overnighted a new one for me at their expense. That fixed it.
A good drive and good service. I'm happy!
