I have this hooked up to my iMac's Time Machine, and it works wonderfully. My computer backs up about every hour, and the blue LED turns on to let me know it is doing it's business.
Because it is pretty much constantly running, the cooling is constantly having to run. So for me it is a little on the loud side, but its still quieter than the PC laptop I have. Much quieter!
Very sleek design, I don't know what all the hype about it being designed by a designer or anything, it's just a box with a blue light. However, it does look nice, the LED is not distracting at all. And the size is perfect. It's pretty small, so it is easily hidden.
Overall, this is a great external. Great price, Not too loud, sleek design. It's perfect.

I'm a PC user, and find LaCie's drives superior to all other brands. I've got the 750gig version, a 500gig and one of these 1tb models. I've had a couple of Western Digital externals crap out on me, but my old LaCie 500gig drive is still going strong. I don't use the utilities and I don't partition these drives. I use them as primary, backup and portable storage and they travel very well. The best feature on this drive--the on/off switch on the back. Unlike my Western Digitals, my old LaCie is always on as long as it's plugged in, which makes absolutely no sense. You can turn this model off when it's not being used, which saves on disk life and power usage.Customer Review: What I expected

I've dealt with Lacie items where I work and their customer service department is top notch. We had a 2Big 1TB NAS that bit the dust a while back (it worked flawlessly and then the power supply did something weird). They had me send it to them for repair and when it returned it had been upgraded to the 2TB model free of charge.
So when it came time to replace my WD external drive (which was very noisy and got very hot) and it was giving me issues on reliability. Since then I almost forget that I have an external drive. File access is quick and I am just plain happy with it. Just as I expected.

I bought this for my Fiancee for Christmas! Of course I got awesome service from the retailer (J&R Computer World)and received my HD sooner than promised. My Fiancee had it up and transferring files from her Destop in about two minutes. No problems so far. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who needs an external HD. Matter of fact I am probably going to buy one for myself. I just wish more retailers sold them. I was looking for a 500GB model and could only find one for sale from a private individual. Other than that I give it five stars!Customer Review: Great Product!

I am thoroughly satisfied with this hard drive. It's not completely silent, but it doesn't make a lot of noise at all. It's reasonably fast for what I wanted to do with it. I never installed the included software, instead I formatted and split it into 2 partitions. I use one for backup with Time Machine and the other partition for file (mainly music/movies/pictures) storage. I can run an iTunes library from this drive with no problems at all. Definitely recommend it for anyone who is going to mainly use it as a storage/media device. Works great.
