Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Logitech V220 Cordless Optical Mouse for Notebooks (Dark Silver)Customer Review: Logitech V220 Cordless Optical Mouse for Notebooks Summary: 5 Stars
I bought two of these at Christmas time, one as a gift for my wife for her Dell 4100 desktop PC and the other for my IBM ThinkPad laptop computer. We have struggled with a couple wired mice over the years and had enough of the dust balls invading the mice. The Logitech V220 had numerous good reviews and the price was reasonable, especially with free Amazon shipping. They arrived soon after ordering and were put into service on Christmas day. Installation was plug and play for the receiver into a USB port. There is a download available for adding additional features. The mouse can be configured for various buttons. The mice came with an alkaline AA battery for each. Some of the reviews indicated battery life of up to 6 months. One of the mice lasted about one month. The other is still working 2 months later. I was curious about the current consumption as a retired electrical engineer and was able to measure the current on each. It turned out the current draw was identical for the two so I concluded the supplied batteries were not equal when purchased new. The mouse draws about 100uA static and about 14mA when in use. If the USB receiver is piggybacked onto the mouse when not in use the mouse is shut off completely, it appears. The performance is great, no problems. The Dell desktop has the USB ports in the back and I was concerned that the location might affect the wireless path but it turned out it worked fine. I would recommend this unit to all. There is no need to spend more on laser units.
Customer Review: Great little mouse! Summary: 5 Stars
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
Logitech has made scome great mice over the year, and this one is no exception. Its a nice little travel mouse, with basic features, a cool detachable receiver, and great battery life.
Features:
-2 buttons
-scroll wheel with some sort of "tilt" feature that I didn't use
-cool little snap on USB receiver (you don't have to dig around in your bag for the plug anymore!)
-Battery life is listed as "up to 6 months of battery life", and in my experience logitech lives up to its claims in this area.
The mouse uses only 1AA battery! This is great for a couple of reasons: AA batteries are the ones you're most likely to have around, you can find one easily, and you can use rechargeables if you want to, but you don't have to use some proprietary charge base. It's the best of both worlds.
For a lot of people, any extra bells and whistles aren't necessary. This mouse is great at what it is, and most of the laptop users out there aren't going to need any more features that the ones n this mouse. If you do want some extra buttons, check out Logitechs other "V" models, there's probably one for you.
Customer Review: Convenient, compact and comfortable Summary: 5 Stars
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
This little mouse is perfect for using on laptops. I keep mine right next to my living room chair where I use my computer. If my thumb starts getting tired, I switch to this device and roll the mouse on the arm of my chair where the sensor has the same tracking response as on a smooth surface.
The ergonomic grooves on the sides of the mouse are rubber coated which makes them easy to rest your fingers in. My thumb feels better when it relaxes in this groove. There are also some smoothed out depressions on the click buttons. These features make it more comfortable to use.
The shape and size really work for me. I thought it would be too small but in fact I find it more comfortable than a regular mouse. Somehow being able to fit your whole hand over it makes it more comfy.
The mini-receiver slides into place on the bottom of the mouse and sits securely. I have dropped the mouse several times when the receiver was on the mouse and it stayed on. And the mouse worked after being dropped several times so it seems fairly durable.
This is a handy little gadget--I say try it!
Customer Review: Smooth... Summary: 5 Stars
I have this mouse in kind of an unusual setup. I have its RF (27 Mhz) USB receiver plugged into the end of a 15 foot USB extension cable that extends from a rear USB port on my desktop computer and wraps around my easy chair. This positions the receiver (sitting on the floor & well protected) about two feet below the chair arm that I use as a mouse pad and well within the V220's four foot range. My chair arm 'mouse pad' is uneven with worn spots, but the V220 is unaffected. This is the smoothest mouse I have ever had. I have ordered another one. I initially tried plugging the receiver directly into the computer's front USB port, but with 5-6 feet (not line of sight) between the mouse and receiver operation was erratic.
This mouse has a wheel that tilts rt/left for horizontal scrolling (a mouse feature new to me). On my Windows7 computer the wheel tilt horizonal scrolling worked even before I installed the Logitech SetPoint utility, which I am using to program the wheel switch to F11 (fullscreen toggle on most browsers). SetPoint seems to be hassle free, it simply adds a tab to the mouse screens in the Window's Control Panel.
I can't find the 'V220' model number anywhere on my candy striped model. Very strange considering there is text all over the mouse (top, bottom, a paper label inside). I inked 'V220' on the bottom, so when it dies I will know what to buy.
Customer Review: V220 works, enough said Summary: 5 Stars
This mouse is a five-star product. Enough said. Do not be misled by always superior geeks. Elsewhere, one writes: I found the mouse to be overly sensitive, even after changing the mouse configurations in Control Panel. The Microsoft Wireless Notebook Optical Mouse 3000 is more precise,he/she writes and concludes: The Logitech v220 is a little bit more ergonomic on the hands, but not by much Well, I use it for my traveling laptop and most recently I have attached it to my new mini-mini-mini-laptop, my baby-computer. It works great. If its receiver slightly sticks out from your USB port, well, everything will. Only gadgets with Bluetooth technology will not. BTW, I use a small USB hub, flexible; to it is attached this mouse AND also my wireless/national broadband USB modem (phone card.)
(I suspect that overwhelming majority of us do not use our little notebooks, net-books, mini-notebooks(baby-computers) for any major NASA or global warming predictions/projects or medical research, or weapons testing. I do not need/use my baby-computer while working with huge raw files/photographs in Photoshop CS3.)
So, perhaps what is overly sensitive is in the eyes of beholder. Myself, I do not need to change the mouse configurations in Control Panel. V220 is small, works great and if needed -- it fits in my pocket. That is enough. If you need one, just buy it.
