Customer Review: A superb little mouse in every respect
Summary: 5 Stars

My ten year old Mac "inverted hubcap" G4 desktop computer has been in the shop off-and-on for two months trying to get the accursed Safari 4 so-called "upgrade" removed. Meanwhile, I bought a great little like-new wireless Mac G4 ibook (running OSX 10.5) off Amazon for $208 to keep me going. I've used track pads for years and am OK with them, but I prefer a mouse. I have always had good luck with Logitech products so I bought a refurbished, guaranteed, VX220 mouse from a Verizon vender for only $9. It came in a plastic bag, along with a spare USB accessory cable, and no instructions. Slipping the little USB receiver unit out of its slot on the bottom of the mouse reveals a little switch marked "off/on," a reset button marked "reset," and a press button with a battery symbol printed on it. Everything was self evident. I pressed the battery cover release button firmly and the cover released, revealing a small battery compartment marked "AA" and a + sign at one end. After inserting an AA battery, snapping the cover back in place, and inserting the tiny receiver into a USB slot on the notebook, the mouse was fully functional. Interestingly, the notebook trackpad was also still functional. I could use either one, as I chose.

Some have said the mouse is a bit too small, but I find it a perfect size, better than the larger clunky mouse of my ailing desktop Mac. The wheel is comfortably large and scrolls with precision up and down and side to side. The clicker has just the right amount of resistance. I have yet to find a surface or color the sensor doesn't like, including skin and glass. The USB mouse receiver has a little dog-leg slot that, when the receiver is re-inserted in place on the bottom of the mouse, engages the little on/off switch and automatically switches off the power, saving battery life. Logitech says the battery should last upward of six months. I use rechargeable NiMH batteries so battery power isn't an issue, but I always switch it off anyway out of habit. Some have complained that the VX220 receiver has only about a 4-foot range. If you need to type while using the mouse, and your arms are more than four feet long, this could be an issue. In that case the mouse USB receiver could be plugged into one end of the USB accessory cable and the other cable end plugged into the notebook, giving you greater range. My mouse has never been too far from the computer to work. It functions out to 6 feet, measured, further away than I can use the laptop monitor.

In summary, the little mouse is extremely well thought out ergonomically and easy to use. I have absolutely no complaints so far. I might even buy another another one for my big Mac when I get it back.

Customer Review: Just Plain Awesome
Summary: 5 Stars

I first came across the V220 when I got a new laptop at work and it came with this mouse. This is hands down the best mouse I have ever used - wired or wireless. Here's a quick list of the reasons for why I love this thing:

*Works on almost any surface - I can use this mouse lying in bed, on my pant leg (no joke), or on pretty much an solid surface with perfect performance
*Small in size, yet comfortable to use all day (i wear men's large gloves, to give you an idea for sizing)
*Solid battery life (runs on a single AA battery)
*Packs nicely - the usb receiver (same size as a flash drive) slides/locks into the bottom of the mouse, simultaneously turning the mouse off to save battery life

While designed for traveling/mobility, this mouse works great for any use (even desktops). To save battery life if using at a desk all day (or for use at home), simply flip the power switch to off on the bottom of the mouse when you are done with the computer. Turning it back "on", and it only takes a second (literally) for the mouse to be back up and running again.

Long story short, as a traveling consultant I love this mouse for its mobility and convenience. But it was the outstanding performance of functioning perfectly on almost any surface while also being comfortable that led me to buy one for my home PC. After 3+ months of daily use, I have not had a single problem - seriously, not even a tiny "glitch." I highly recommend this mouse to anyone, no matter what your intended use. The only surface I have noticed it doesn't work on is glass, which you shouldn't expect it to since the optical laser can't "hit" glass (which is why I listed this at the bottom since it shouldn't be considered a product issue, but rather a reminder).

*Note: remember this is a standard mouse, and not an "ergonomic" mouse. For people with wrist pain/issues, you may want to look elsewhere since this device may not alleviate your discomfort. I would recommend a 3M Joystick Mouse to help eliminate/prevent wrist pain.

Customer Review: Great Mouse!
Summary: 5 Stars

The V220 has a nice ergonomic feel; particularly, I love the rubberized grip on the sides. The mouse is gorgeous! Extremely responsive. It is available in many colors; gray is nice, also in blue, red, pink, purple, etc. It is intended for use on laptops which explains its smaller size. I got another Logitech mouse, the V200 which I love especially with the battery that last almost forever which I still use. Hence, I did not hesitate to grab another one from the same manufacturer once I saw this one on sale on a major national chain store. This one claims to have a battery life for a single AA for around 6 months. Having owned the V200, I absolutely have no doubt it can do the same (I will update this post if I find it otherwise). The pack includes one Duracell AA, so it is ready to use out of the box. It also has an on/off button at the bottom which I never used on the V200. I just let it in the on position all the time and it wakes up in a second as soon as I touch it again. I don't even notice any difference in the longevity of the battery juice.

There is a button at the bottom to release the battery compartment. It does not have a spring which usually tells you where the negative end of the battery goes, but it is clearly marked on the compartment the way it should be positioned. The battery is situated a little funny, which is diagonally. The wheel serves as another button which is very useful for me. If you need to travel with it, the USB dongle has a special niche at the bottom and it automatically shuts off the mouse once it is snapped into place.

Pros:
- Incredible battery life
- Performance
- Shape and looks

Cons:
- The only thing that I wish to change is the size of the dongle. Notebooks need dongles that is almost like a nub. Check out the USB receiver for the Logitech VX Nano Cordless Laser Mouse for Notebooks . But you have to pay double!

Highly recommended!

Customer Review: After 9+ months of abuse, still good as new!
Summary: 5 Stars

I needed a new cordless optical mouse at the end of 2009. I wanted something small, because I have small hands, so a netbook or laptop mouse was just the thing. I had qualms about buying it without getting to hold it in my hand, but once I got the mouse, they were quickly eased. This mouse plugs into a USB port and has survived being dropped on a wooden floor I don't know how many times; I've lost count. The battery cover comes off, but seldom does the battery itself do the same. On two particularly bad drops, the scroll wheel became non-functional. It turned out it had just been knocked partly to one side and popped easily back into place and continues to work as new. There is an on/off button on the bottom of the mouse, which can help stretch out the life of the single AA battery it uses, and if you're going to be away from the computer for an undetermined amount of time, it just takes a moment to turn the mouse off so what you're working on isn't disturbed. There is also a small button on the bottom that you can press to open the mouse to change the battery. The scroll wheel feels like you're rolling over bumps, but I like the textural sensation compared to that of smooth feeling wheels. It's obviously a matter of personal choice as to what you prefer. When I use my laptop in the living room, I don't even use a mousepad as it works fine on the arm of my recliner. The only things I don't like about it are that it can accumulate dirt in the on/off switch slot, but a safety pin or small screwdriver removes any 'gunk' easily. The sides are textured to be slightly tacky for a secure grip, which means they need an occasional cleaning. These are extremely minor issues for me. I would recommend this and buy this model again if I needed another mouse.

Customer Review: Comparable to Microsoft 4000. Well-built and improved over older models.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
I use my Thinkpad laptop quite a lot, so a reliable wireless mouse that's both low-maintenance and comfortable is very important to me. I have used an older model of Logitech wireless notebook mouse before and frankly I was not too impressed. Compared the said older model with my Microsoft Wireless Notebook Optical Mouse 4000, which has been my mouse of choice for almost a year now, the older Logitech model came up short on a few design considerations. First, the general feel of key presses: Microsoft mouse buttons are very responsive and be clearly depressed with a comfortable amount of pressure; the older Logitech on the other hand felt ambiguous at times - user doesn't know for sure if a button has been depressed. Secondly, the USB RF connector on the Logitech is always loose when reattached to the mouse when not in use, resulting in pre-mature power-drain. Luckily, LogitechV220 has been re-vamped to address just these issues. Now I use my trustworthy Microsoft 4000 and the Logitech V220 almost interchably and not even noticing the difference a lot of the times. And I believe that's a good thing, a well-built mouse should be unobtrusive and becomes almost a natural extension of the computing environment - something that's so natural users don't even realize its presence. In this regard, Logitech V220 has done a tremendous job to up their previous effort.
