Forget using the configuration button, just set up the router manually and be done with it. I found an article on manually configuring the range expander at SmallNetBuilder.com [...] and followed those instructions without a hitch. The instructions are well-written and straightforward. It does take some time to set the thing up properly, but it's worth it.
My family has a vacation cabin with no internet access. Relatives live in the house next door. We've been able to get a poor wireless signal in our cabin from a router in the house, but the signal was pretty flaky and sometimes was available only in one corner of the cabin.
I replaced the wireless router in the house with one that has a boosted transmission signal, and that resulted in fair to poor wireless signal in all of the cabin (which was an improvement over poor signal in one corner of the first floor). Then I set up the range expander in the cabin in the corner with the strongest signal from the router and now there is good to excellent signal in all parts of the cabin. I haven't tried streaming video or music, but for normal web surfing and e-mail, it works great. After struggling with trying to get acceptable wireless internet access during four visits over two years, I FINALLY have good wireless access. What a relief!
This was well worth the reasonable price and some time and hassle to set it up. If you are patient and follow the instructions for manual setup given at SmallNetBuilder.com, you should be able to make this work for you. You have to turn security off on your router during the initial setup, and setup can be a little tricky if you can't use your router's default IP address of 192.168.1.1 (which was the case with my setup since BellSouth requires something other than 1 for the third set of numbers).
