The case is a hair snug (width wise). The drive fits but not like something where the case was designed for it. It is also longer than it needs to be but that allows me to connect the USB cable (which can be stored in the mesh compartment) without removing the drive from the case. The molded cover seems stiff enough that it could provide some protection but has almost no padding. The clip and carry loop could be helpful in some situations.
All in all, this case is certainly serviceable to hold my Western Digital My Passport Elite 500 GB USB 2.0 Portable External Hard Drive WDBAAC5000ACH-NESN (Charcoal) and it's hard to argue with the price. This case would be perfect if it was a bit wider given that it is advertised to fit my drive. (The "Elite" drive has the same product dimensions as the "Essential" drive identified in the Amazon listing as one suitable for this case.)

This case fits my Seagate Freeagent, its USB cable, 2 flashdrives, and my earbuds just fine. It is a pretty firm case that should protect your drive from getting banged up or from minor drops. All in all, a good product for your expensive hard drive.
The reason I gave it 4 stars is because it's kinda clunkier than I had hoped. I have a laptop bag (or sometimes switch to a normal bookbag) that I carry my things in so all I really needed was something to protect my hard drive from getting scratched up. This case takes up a fair amount of space in my laptop bag. If you're not too rough with your electronics or just have limited space, I would go for a slip-on cover.
