Customer Review: Very happy with these in-ear phones
Summary: 5 Stars

The ear buds that come with the iPod won't stay in my ears and those little foam slip covers always come off and they just generally drive me crazy. So I normally use good over-the-ear headphones. But I needed some in-ear phones to wear at certain times. These Koss ear phones have been great, and you could buy 10 pairs or more for the price of some others!

I'm not an extreme audiophile, but I do demand good clean sound. I like medium-strong bass (but not as much as many people), but it has to be clean and not muddy and not overpower the rest of the frequencies. The bass in these Koss plugs might be just a bit too much, but certainly not enough that I'm going to bother trying to modify them with straws, duct tape, WD-40, and whatever. You can adjust the position of the phones in your ear to reduce the bass, too. Overall, the sound is quite good, but not as clear and bright as I would expect from very expensive phones.

Someone said they look funny in your ears - I don't think so. Besides, who cares?

In summary, they sound very good (but not excellent), they are comfortable and stay in my ears, and they are incredibly cheap! Highly recommended. (P.S. please be careful with volume levels to avoid long-term ear damage. Really. Can you imagine not being able to enjoy music when you're 40 years old? How horrible! Turn down the volume and your ears will adjust to the lower level.)

Customer Review: Audiophile then spend more than $15
Summary: 5 Stars

Ok here is the deal with these earphones. I use to have the Sony Fontopia EX71LP and thought the sound from those was very good. The problem is the sound isolation is very poor. Since I ride a motorcycle I needed something that has great sound isolation. These earphones are awesome! I know people complain about heavy bass, and this is true. However if you have a decent MP3 player just adjust your EQ and things will sound just as good as the Fontopia's. I think Koss made these bass heavy because all the other passive noise isolation earphones (that cost $80+) have complaints about crappy bass. If you are going to work in a quiet environment then why bother getting earphones that double as earplugs? If you are like me and and multitask (work, motorcycle, jog, etc.) how much more are you going to hear between $15 and $300? Well I have tried the $300 Bose active cancellation, and these Koss earphones, guess what the koss had better bass, better noise cancellation, but worse highs. So if you need to hear every single note to perfection then by all means spend $100+. But if you are looking for great noise isolation and decent music then BUY these.

I made them even better by using those little yellow ear plugs instead of the standard Koss ones and improved the comfort (Heck for someone else the standard ones might be great)

Customer Review: Unbeatable value
Summary: 5 Stars

These earphones are quite good. I usually use them to listen to music or watch videos on my laptop, when I want better sound than the built-in speakers. I have used them a couple times when working out, and they have been reasonably good.

Sound-wise, there is no better value for the money. Unless you are an audiophile using these as your main set of ear/headphones, don't buy Shure ec2 earphones, because these are only slightly worse. Don't use Apple earbuds, because these are actually better sounding. I have not gotten to compare them to Sony's "fontopia" line, but I imagine those aren't even as good as the Shure ec2s, based on reputation (:

Comfort wise they are great when sitting still or moving around a little. If you are doing intense physical activity, they may loosen from time to time, but I haven't had them fall out.

Lastly, over the past several months, they have held up electronics-wise. No crackling or sound cutting out, the bass response and midtones remain excellent, and the highs have not become tinny.

The fact that you can find these for under $10, as compared to the prices for Apple, Sony, and Shure is astounding. If you are shopping around, give these are serious shot despite the low price tag, they are comparable to all of those brands.

Customer Review: Out with the noise, in with the sound
Summary: 5 Stars

I've owned these headphones for almost 2 years. I have small ears. So finding headphones that fit comfortably and STAY there can be frustrating. I also commute on the DC Metro as well as a bus. I need headphones that can overpower the noise without blowing up my eardrums. The Koss Sparkplugs have championed all my needs.

The soft earplug like material blocks out all unwanted noise so I can keep the volume at a comfortable level. I would be careful using these on say a bike, because you will likely not be able to hear important things like traffic.

Sound quality is great, especially in this price range. I've used the Shure E2Cs and other $100+ buds as reference. I'm not going to say the Kosses are on par with them but they're not real far off for casual listening. Especially if your source is radio or mp3 player. Best of all you can buy 6 sets for the same money and not worry if you lose them.

You do have to find a stock of the earplug replacements, but my package came with 6 and I still have another set to use. They will get a little gross as they are an in-ear product. But they clean easily with some warm water and hand soap.

So you get great sound deadening without an external battery and quality sound for less than $15. Highly recommended!

Customer Review: Do earbuds hurt your ears?
Summary: 5 Stars

The stock earbuds I got with my MP3 player have three drawbacks.
1.) They bruise my ears.
Whenever they're in for extended periods my ears hurt.
2.) They fall out.
Whenever I run, chew, or at random...they just don't stay in.
3.) The cord's too short.
I've stretched my arms only to have an earbud yanked out of my ear which is bruised from putting it in so much.

These earbuds are soft, cushy, and stay in! The cord is only about 6" longer but it makes a world of difference. Not only that, but I'm hearing stuff on these that I usually only hear at home on big speakers. The sound quality is higher and the sound blocking of the soft foam plugs make it easier to hear details in the music that were lost to the earlier earbuds. Good bass, good vocals, good high freqency sound. If your earbuds hurt your ears, if you have 'wierd' shaped ears and standard earbuds don't stay in...these are for you. You can headbang all you want (if that's your thing) and these will stay in. I can't say enough about the comfort and quality of these for $15! AND....yes there's more good stuff about these, I lowered the volume on my player which means more battery life. If you hate your current earbuds, look no further. This is what you want.
