Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Koss SPARKPLUG - Stereo In Ear Ear PlugsCustomer Review: Excellent Product, Excellent Price Summary: 5 Stars
I have used KOSS Plug for a number of years, and with the quality and superb sound re-production, I use these as the base reference for any other Ear bud I use. The KOSS Sparkplug are items I bought since I had not seen the Plug available. And as usual KOSS did not let me down. In fact as a long time user of KOSS, the product price, together with the product durability and Quality just cannot be beat. For ease of use in just about any situation ( at work, in bed, walking around with any type of decent quality sound unit [usually an ipod] ) the KOSS stands up to constant use, abuse, and general wear and tear. I even plug the PLUG and the new Spark Plug into my STREAMIUM and the sound quality is just as good as any other ear bud, or head set; on my Streamium, I have the BBC world service mostly, and the sound quality is as good as, if not better than my Latec Lansings in the same socket. What blows me away is that KOSS is , dollar for dollar, a better buy than any other ear bud in wide spectrum music response, and in detailed audio playback on podcasts, and from Live Radio. The only one that comes even close is a unit with built in Bass units that is uncomfortable to wear in bed, but has very similar playback ranges, and this is a Rockford Fosgate that sells for approximately 100 dollars; I love my RFs , its just that price wise, the KOSS unit is far better, and don't ever think you are compromising, since I have used ( and I still have) units that are selling for double and even triple the price, and they don't compare to the KOSS. I can't say enough good things about the KOSS plug and Sparkplug ( Sparkplug in this case, since I just bought it). Let me just say that its not that the others, like the J-budz, are not good, they are No where NEAR as good as the KOSS, so why pay more for less ?
Customer Review: most underated headphone Summary: 5 Stars
I collected numerous headphones. My music "disturbed" other family members so much that I need to use headphones in the last 30 years or so ;-). Most are forgetables (30 brand and mdoels or so).
My current collection: Sony MDR-V600, Bose Quiet comfort 2(QC2) several bad Sony earphones (bad but expensive), a JVC HC-N100 with Noise Cancelling, Philips with Noise cancelling etc etc. The JVC and Bose are very useful for both long distance travelling and cardio workouts.
My latest acquisition is this Koss headphone. I consider this headphone as a blessing for the cardio group - people who has to work out for their health. This headphone is really powerful. Set yr Ipod at minimimum volume and this heaphone already give you such a powerful sound, enough to drown the noise of your treadmill. The quality is good to excellent, a bit muddy vs Sony MDR-V600 & Bose QC2 but considering the price (Sony was bought at $150 years ago and Bose QC2 at $300) at less than $20, this is the best kept secret of audiophiles.
Thanks Koss for giving such a great value to the cardio and long distance travelers communities. I recommend this headphone highly if you find it hard to fork out $300 for a headphone and you still get the quality and good noise canceling for your enjoyment.
Oh yes, the new ear interface is also great for people like me, those whose left and right ear have different form due to childhood accident, you can easily fit these into your unsymetrical ears. This is a very creative solution on how to fit the phones into the ears. Big kudos to Koss for this creative solution.
I cannot thank Koss enough for introducing this headphone, so I have to write this review to tell the world!
Customer Review: No weak spots... Summary: 5 Stars
Just as the topic suggests, these earbuds rule! I'm nothing of an audiophile, I'm not even close, but still I love listening to music...a wide variety of music... I bought the Spark Plug after my "fantastic" Sony MDR-E818LP earbuds broke down...after roughly 2 months of use...I'm never going to buy anything branded "SONY" but that's another story. The first song I listened to was "Immortality" recorded by a Polish deathmetal band "Hate". I've listened to it hundreds of times on my Unitra-Amped-Computer and let me tell you one thing - these plugs beat the crap out of my audio system. Never before had I heard bass so powerful but at the same time the treble was crystal clear. Some of the comments say that the Spark Plug's sound is gloomy/muddy or whatever, and that equalizer changes nothing - my reply would be - there's something terribly wrong with your equalizer ;]. On my mp3 player (one of these sticks based upon the SigmaTel's STMP3500) when I set the eq to FULL BASS the sound was gloomy but when I switched to the Rock or Jazz settings the sound was simply perfect. As I said before, I listen to a wide spectrum of music and that's why right after the "test drive" with "Hate" I listened to songs like "Comfortably Numb" (Pink Floyd), "La Villa Strangiato" (Rush), "Lines in The Sand" (Dream Theater) or "Conga Fury" (Juno Reactor), and every one of these (and many others) sounded brilliant.
To sum up, The Spark Plugs are incredible earbuds, I was shocked to discover what they could do, and after seeing prices of Shure or Etymotic products, I realized that they're also DIRT CHEAP, especially when you take into account the quality which they provide. If you want great earbuds at a great price, Spark Plug is the answer!
Customer Review: Best value, Durable, Very efficient, Good sound quality. Summary: 5 Stars
I've been using Koss Plugs for about a year. I forgot them in my pants pocket once and sent them through the washing machine. At first the high frequency was a little messed up, but after a few days they returned to normal.
I threw away the foam pads that came with them almost immediately and fitted them with a pair of normal squishy earplugs. These are the kind of earplugs that are made of memory foam that you roll between your fingers and let them slowly expand in your ears. To prepare the earplugs you have to shorten them a bit with some scissors then "drill" or actually melt a hole through them with a hot piece of coat hanger. Then you fit them over the plastic tubes that come out of the Koss Plugs. To me the prepared ear plugs are much more comfortable and seal much better than the foam pieces that come with the Koss Plugs.
I have a Sony active noise canceling headset, which is good for environments with low levels of back ground noise, but are not adequate for very noisy environments, such as when you are using a leaf blower or working around heavy equipment. In this type of situation I use the Koss Plugs and a pair of muff style hearing protectors. When using them like this however you must be very careful because the sound isolation is so great that even persons shouting will have a very difficult time getting your attention.
The Koss Plugs take much less energy to run compared to other headsets. You must use a much lower volume setting. The sound quality is excellent. They are cheap and durable; unlike ear buds they stay in your ears when you are working or playing.
Customer Review: Love them! Summary: 5 Stars
I'll start by saying that I am writing this review as I came back for my third pair of these headphones. In fact, this will be the 5th set of koss phones I have bought for the various mp3 players around our house. I am buying them, not because they malfunctioned in any way, but, just to have a back up set in case anything untowards happens to one of the others and they become unavailable (I hope they don't).
The sound quality is so much better on these than any of the other earbuds I've used it is unbelievable. Our sennheisers are now gathering dust. I am hearing things I've never heard before (nuances, mumbled lyrics) in music I've listened to for 20 years,
I also like that they have a very flexible cord and because of the shape can be rolled up in a very small space and fit in the little mesh pocket of my mp3 case.
They fit my ear well and don't fall out like the ones which came with the ipod (never even tried the ones which came with my zen...just like these too much!)
I have to admit I was skeptical when I first saw these,(and did not expect them to sound as good as very much more expensive sennheisers) but, decided to try them after reading rave reviews of "the plug," an earlier model. Amazon now has both of these available (when I ordered they only carried the sparkplugs). I believe the sparkplugs addressed the few complaints people had with the plugs. I can't compare the two, but can say I am very happy with these!
I seriously doubt that you can find better sound quality in the $10-15 range. It is very impressive sound for the price.
