Customer Review: Awesome headphones in their own right, but at this price? Incredible value!
Summary: 5 Stars

I've been using this model headphone in its various incarnation for almost 15 years. The fact that I keep coming back for the same set of headphones every time a pair breaks down speaks for itself.

I first found these at as a RadioShack branded headphone for $20 back in the mid 1990's, and was amazed by the sound quality given the price point. I use these headphones as my workout headphones, so they get a good beating, causing me to need to replace them every couple of years, and I always seemed to return to RadioShack to buy the exact same pair.

At some point in the mid 2000's the RadioShack branded model disappeared from the shelves and was replaced by the Koss branded model (exact same headphones, just a different name) for $40. Even at $40 I thought they were worth it and continued to replace them as they wore out.

Most recently I returned again to RadioShack to pick up yet a replacement pair and found RadioShack no longer carried them under any name, so I turned to the internet and found them here on Amazon. At $15!! How psyched was I?!?

I share all this just to point out that, year after year, I have yet to find a better pair of over-the-head earphones, even when they were priced as high as $40. They sound great - fantastic, balanced bass response - they're comfortable as over-the-head earphones get.

My only critique is that the inline volume control wears out over time and you lost audio in one ear. My solution has been to just tape the inline control in place to keep the volume control from moving, and adjust the volume from my iPod.

Customer Review: Great headphones - don't be fooled by the low price
Summary: 5 Stars

I am somewhat of an audiophile and good quality sound is important to me. These Koss headphones really deliver the goods. They have an overall neutral quality to them - they don't obviously color the sound. They don't have super deep bass - they probably go down to about 50 Hz, but very few headphones go lower than this. The high end is brilliant without sounding brittle. Its amazing you can get such good sound for this price.

I also have a pair of $50 Sony Headphones, a pair of $50 collapse-able headphones from Senhieser, and a pair of $100 in-ear phones from Senheiser. These Koss phones sound better than any of them! The only thing I personally have listened to that is better, in terms of sound quality, is a pair of $300 Bose noise cancellation phones. I would also imagine that the true pro gear stuff - the $400 and up studio headphones are better, but I have never had a chance to listen to these.

Another reviewer noted that these exact same headphones are sold by RadioShack under their own brand name for $60/pair. I also owned these headphones, for several years, and he is correct, its the same headphones! When my RadioShack phones broke, I bought these.

These phones fit lightly over your ear, they don't provide total sonic isolation from the outside world, but I use them at work when the chatter gets distracting, and its never been a problem. The sound of the music gives you enough isolation to drown them out. At this price, you can't lose. Buy a pair for your kids and then steal them back when you realize they're better than what you have!

Customer Review: I'm a believer
Summary: 5 Stars

Update - This product ties with the "best product" I purchased in 2006. Thank you Koss for helping me hear sounds I never quite noted before.

I actually put an order for these phones as a "filler" so I wouldn't have to pay for shipping on another item I was ordering.

And the instant I put the headphones on I knew I was listening to sounds that would muddy into the background with my other headphones. It also happened that the first track that sang through these headphones was Neil Diamond's "I'm a believer" - not that I am a great Neil Diamond fan - but all those sound bits I seemed to have missed had me listen to the whole track.

In addition to headphones that come with the gizmos, my earlier pair of headphones (Sony MDR-V200) were purchased when I used to think that all things "Sony" were reasonably good. It turns out that there is no comparison between the sound of the crappy Sony's and the Koss. I thought of consigning the Sony's to the trash pile, but now I'm saving them so that the Sony believers can hear the difference for themselves when they step my way.

It seems that these headphones have a wide frequency stage with very little coloration. The sound appears very clear - compared to the muddy sound of my Sony's - which I attribute to very good transient response. Probably a stiff and light diaphragm that does not flex at high frequencies. Get these headphones - and you too will be a believer.

PS - if you have recordings that are distorted - you will hear the distortions too rather clearly. You've been warned.

Customer Review: Koss is still Boss!
Summary: 5 Stars

Like some of the other reviewers, my goal in purchasing a new set of headphones is that my MP3/CD player had terribly low out-put and simply didn't play well with most other headphones than the ones provided. Now I love my MP3 player so I had to find a way around this and after reading many reviews, I decided that I would give Koss, which has always had a great name, backs up their product for life and owing to the fact that I have one of the "ear muff" kind of Koss headphones that works great with my regular stereo or television, I decided to give these KTXPRO1 headphones a try.
I was not disappointed! They worked better with my MP3/CD player than the headphones that came with it and the sound quality is absolutely out of this world! And the volume control is great too! I had just recently purchased a boosteroo portable device amplifier and I don't even need it with these headphones! They are absolutely wonderful and the in-line volume control is wonderful as well. The bottom line is that just because something is inexpensive doesn't mean it is going to be of poor quality. I had also just received a pair of Sennheiser PX-100's and though they were rated just as well, if not better in some cases, the KTXPRO1 beats them hands down! Both are excellent headphones by great companies but Sennheiser only gives you a two year warranty whereas Koss backs up their products for life, so in my opinion you can't go wrong with these headphones and as I wrote in my title, "Koss is still Boss!"

Customer Review: Really comfy
Summary: 5 Stars

Usually I get irritated with headphones after about an hour, but these are really comfortable. The top part (rubbery) keeps sticking to my hair and messing it up, but it has a nicer feel on my head than normal hard bands. The ear parts (I'm all technical...) are nice, they fit perfectly to my ears, and the sound doesn't get past my head (I use them at work, so this is important).

The sound quality seems good to me, I can hear very slight audio fluctuations (with the volume way high).
I got these especially for the sound control, because I listen to my music at much lower volumes than other people, and am constantly adjusting the volume, and I really like being able to adjust it easily.

Although they are portable, they don't fold up, but the flexible band makes it so I'm not worried they'll crack or anything in transit.
The cord is flexible, long enough but not too long.

The price is great, I hate spending a lot of money on headphones, and these are really nice.

All in all, I'm very happy with these headphones.

(Update July 2010: So I had these earphones for a year and a half when I tried taking them on a trip. They transported fine, but one day of wearing them moving around... and they don't work anymore. Makes me disagree with the 'portable' aspect. However, they're better than anything else I've tried for at my desk -- I actually like them -- so I'm buying another pair. That says it all.)
