Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Koss KSC75 Portable Stereophone HeadphonesCustomer Review: Great value Summary: 5 Stars
After using these cans for a while, I think they're probably the best ones you can get for less than $50.
Do they have their problems? Yes. It can be a pain to put them on your ears. You'll mess around with them for ten seconds before you can finally find a way to slip them over your ear. But at the same time, they're also incredibly comfortable for long periods of time, and stay on very very well. They don't wiggle around and fall out of your ear, like the standard iPod earbuds.
The sound quality isn't professional quality, but it has a pretty impressive range for how much you spend. You won't get a good block-rockin beat from these cans, but at least you can tell when a beat is there -- bass is just subdued.
They're also pretty durable. If you put too much strain on the actual cans, the over-ear holder will pop off. I think this is great, as it prevents me accidentally crushing them in my backpack. You can then just snap the ear loop back on to the speaker anytime. Speaking of durability, I sometimes have a slight buzz in the right can. Rare, though.
They actually look pretty nice. I can't really give them five stars on this point, just because... you'll have to do something exceptional to make cans look as good as in-ear phones. Even so, Koss did a perfectly serviceable job with these.
Did I mention comfort? I go on 3+ hour bike rides with these on, and couldn't be happier.
Koss really hit a home run with these cans. Good price, comfortable, the ability to stay on your head, decent durability, fine sound quality. Absolutely recommended.
Customer Review: Great as sport headphones. Summary: 5 Stars
I bought these for my morning jogs, since the ear buds that came with my iPhone fall out all the time when I exercise. I'm not one to skimp on audio quality, so I began searching online for any kind of sport headphones that had decent sound quality. In my endeavors, I came across the Cnet Koss Porta Pro review. I was shocked at what they were saying about sub 50$ headphones. I was considering trying them for editing my music, so I was looking around at different websites to see what normal people were saying about them. I found that Koss made head phones with the exact same drivers for about half the price, AND THEY WERE CLIP ONS. Needless to say, I had to give them a go for 15$. While these aren't advertised necessarily as "sport headphones" they stay on my head great (compared to iPhone ear buds). Rather comfortable, I tend to forget I'm wearing them after a while. The pads do soak up a little bit of sweat but that airs out quick. Also, in the pair I got, the right clip was bent out a little more than on the left. Not a big problem, it's just a little less snug than my left ear, but it still stays on my head. The audio quality blows me away every time I put them on; There is a glorious amount of bass on these babies! I mostly listen to indie-rock and folk, yet I'm a big fan of bass in those genres, and it comes through great. You can hear the kick drum just pop right out of the song. The higher ranges don't suffer at all from this though, every thing is clear and sounds the way it was meant to. Really just an all around fantastic pair of headphones, can't think of anything comparable in the price range.
Customer Review: Excellent headphones with good warranty Summary: 5 Stars
I have to agree with the majority of the reviews for these headphones. They are a great deal for the money. I used my headphones for about a year with much abuse and they were up to the task. There were many times when I got the cord caught on something and the headphones came off of the clips, but never broke, just snapped them back together and I was back in business. Over the summer I was painting my house while using the headphones. I got very hot and I ended up getting sweat into the volume control. This caused the control to become very noisy when adjusting the volume and it was hard to get the same volume in both channels. I looked at the Koss website and found the information to send the phones back (luckily I bought two sets so I didn't have to go with out the phones). I had to include a check for $6 for shipping and handling. The cost for me to send them was under $2 via USPS. So the total cost was under $8. I was pleasantly surprised to find a new pair in my mailbox in just under 3 weeks from when I sent them in! Good job Koss! You can't beat a new pair of these for under $8 and a little bit of time to pack them up and take them to the post office. I would definitely recommend these headphones!
EDIT: I opened up the headphones to make sure they worked and noticed that there was no volume control. I guess that takes care of any future problems with the noisy volume control. Disappointing that there is no volume control. I wonder if they changed the design? Can't tell from the picture and no mention of a volume control in the description. Still a worthy purchase.
Customer Review: Lives up to the hype! Summary: 5 Stars
I researched headphones a lot before buying these. The line of Koss phones with the portapro driver's (including the KSC35/50/75) consistantly get excellent reviews. So I was glad to find them here for an great price. I've heard that these phones sounds as good or better than anything under fifty-bucks. I don't have enough experience with a range of phones to say this for sure, but from my limited experience I believe it.
SOUND: excellent, straight out of the box. Best sounding pair of phones I own and only fifteen-bucks!? Nice range, clear tones, and great (but not overly bloated) bass.
My one complaint about sound is that it leaks a lot! Because these are open design they will let outside noise in, and they will share your music with your neighbors. So maybe not as appropriate for noisy buses, subway, airplane, or in close crowds who don't share your music taste.
COMFORT: surprisingly nice! They were easy to put on the very first time and I can hardly tell I'm wearing anything. One nice improvement over previous Koss clip-on models is that the clip is adjustable. It's a metal wire covered in comfy rubber. You can easily bend the wire to adjust the clip to fit perfectly on your ear. You can make them hang loosely, or tighten them up for punchier bass, and so they stay snug when exercising.
LOOKS: not the best, but better than previous Koss clip-on designs. They look like an updated KSC35--silver and more curvy.
OVERALL: Excellent set of headphones that are UNDERPRICED for their value!
Customer Review: Believe it. The real deal. Summary: 5 Stars
Over the years I've collected a wide range of headphones. I'm pretty picky and some of the headphones that I own are quite expensive (one set is over $2000). Among my headphones I have several pair of the Koss based on this driver. I keep a pair in my gym bag, a pair in my car, a pair at the office, a pair by my bed, and one by where I watch TV. The most I've paid for any of these is about $15. I've been through several sets of earpads.
I don't generally like clip on head phones, but sometimes I need to hear what is going on around me and the clipons are useful.
The thing I love about these headphones is that even though they are cheap, they are surprisingly good. When you hear them you hear real music with good detail and a full range. There are plenty of headphones you can buy for $99 that are not as good as these. Are they the ultimate headphone? No. They are not as good as the mid range ATKs, Sennheisers, Grados, Denons or Beyerdynamics. But they also don't need a headphone amp, are cheap and pretty much work forever. They are the best upgrade you can buy for under $20 for just about any mp3 player and are a thousand times better than any of the included OEM earphones. I like them better than the Sennheisers in the $50 range, but some people like the Sennheisers better. The KSC 75, the Sporta Pro and the KTX Pro 1 all sound pretty much the same to me - they are by far my favorite cheap headphones. Even though they are cheap, they are real headphones and several times better than most earbuds.
