Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Koss KSC75 Portable Stereophone HeadphonesCustomer Review: Fantastic Design!! Summary: 5 Stars
I am loving these earphones!! Anyone who has ever bought an iPod (of any kind) knows they come with those awful, Painful, "albeit stylish" earbuds. Even buying the cushions to cover them did not make them comfortable. I have owned several different types of headphones, that go inside and outside the ears, and was not looking forward to buying more. But my ears were hurting and I needed something quick. As always, Amazon reviewers on technical stuff give great details and have not let me down. I am pleased to say that by far --- these Koss earphones are THE MOST COMFORTABLE I have ever had. They do not pinch or squeeze any part of my ear, nor do they mash up against my head. I believe the reason for that is because they are made to be loose, perhaps to accomodate different ear sizes. The cushioned pad swivels for added comfort and fit. That also means, they are not extrememly noise reducing but if you turn up the volume to a comfortable level (don't hurt your hearing), you will find they are still quality phones.
I like that they don't interfere with my hairdo. Because they sit on the outside of the ear, I am not constantly fiddling with them to make sure they don't fall out, like I do with the earbuds (and any other "in" ear phones).
If you are looking for a good, comfortable, economical pair of earphones, look no further and buy these. If you prefer something more high tech or better sound, I'd say check out the other earphones by Koss. The good reviews are what led me to this brand. My ears are happy! I have not fallen asleep in these yet but the way they fit, I think it will be like falling asleep in your eyeglasses. Not painful. Thanks to the previous reviewers who led me to these wonderful earphones!
Customer Review: audiophile sound from cheapie earphones? Summary: 5 Stars
I was truly astounded when I first put these on. The sound was every bit as good as moderately priced, audiophile headphones, of which I have a few. Keep in mind that the price of these are only a few dollars more than the cheapie earphones you can get at several chain drugstores. This is undoubtedly one of the best bargains on Amazon. I give it highest possible recommendation.
The sound was so good, that I put them through the usual battery of listening tests that I give to good quality headphones or speakers. The tonal balance throughout the sound spectrum was even and very well balanced. On high-pitched, metallic percussion there were moderate amounts of shatter. On larger choral pieces like the Mahler Second and Eighth, the womens' voices sounded `shouty'. The bass was remarkably strong, even to the point of being tubby. They gave the barest hint of organ, bass pedal notes. The imaging was surprising airy and three dimensional. All told, the complaints I have are not unlike those I would expect from good quality, $50 audiophile quality headphones.
Well, that is the good news. I have reservations, but these are minor, physical ones. The plug is straight rather than 90 degrees, and the pivot point for the cans are cheapie plastic; neither of these speak of long term reliability. There is no volume control or mute button, but neither do cheapie ipod earphones. Interestingly, they are clip-ons, but are supra-aural: the cans are large and sit flat against your ear, rather than inserting the drivers directly into your ear canal like the Sony. This makes it kinda fiddly to put them on or off: you have to wiggle them. There is no handy-dandy carrying case or storage bag like the PortaPro.
Customer Review: Worth 5x the cost Summary: 5 Stars
These little puppies can seriously give some $100 cans a run for their money. Absolutely the best 'phone to enter the world of 'head-fi'. You'll be able to instantly tell the difference in how much more 'thick' or 'deep' the sound is compared to all the crappy stock headphones/earbuds that have come with every piece of portable audio equipment you've ever had (and I'm not talking just about more bass, but nice tight bass and a good representation across the entire range). I've tried some very high end headphones that are supposedly the top end of the headphone spectrum and I guess could be considered more 'analytical', but are much less fun than these. This is why I always keep coming back to my 75's whenever I just want to enjoy music on the go. Not the best for blasting on the bus since they don't pretend not to leak sound (and they don't isolate much, which can be a very good thing in some cases) but you honestly can't find a better headphone for under $20, and I'd argue you can't find one for under $75 as good as these (with possible exception of a few of the entry-level Grado's). At 60ohms these guys really attain a nirvana-like next level with a portable amp (like a govibe or pa2v2) and, if your a diy'er, there's a few mods (opening the grill, recabling and making a hole in the pad) which can really bring the 75's into a range to be compared side-by-side (imho) with some of the mid-level head-fi phones out there (~$100) and possibly higher depending on how 'analytical' vs 'fun' you like your phones. I've had mine for 3 years and haven't found a better replacement portable solution (barring IEMs) yet. A definitely recommended buy for you and every single one of your friends (heck, at $14, I'd say it's mandatory).
Customer Review: Koss KSC75 headphones: Biggest tones for smallest bones. Summary: 5 Stars
Okay so you got that new mp3 player, you load some of your favorite songs on it, put in your earbuds, touch play and...it sounds like a transistor radio. Don't feel bad. It happens to every one of us that buys a new portable listening device. Everyone, I have an announcement: All earbuds sound terrible. Yes, even the expensive ones. I've tried them. If they insert into your ear, they will not sound good. This is fact. I didn't want over-the-head or behind the neck types. I wanted something that wouldn't move while I was in the gym. I decided to try the Koss KSC75s. I must admit, I did not expect much for $16. So when I got these things and plugged them in - I was blown away. You want bass? Got it. Punch? Got it. Big volume? Got it. Sensitivity? Got it. Freedom to work out hard? Got it. Want to be able to hear what's going on around you when you lower the volume? All taken care of. When people at the gym ask me about them, I just say, "plug them into your player and try them." They always have this look on their face like, "wow! Where can I get some of these and how much are they?" My daughter has the Sennheiser PX100Ws ($34.99) which are very very good. I can't tell the difference in sound quality between the two. The PX100Ws may be able to handle a little more power, but if it's premium sound you want without straps, bands, or breaking the bank, the KSC75s are the top of the food chain. You will have to get used to putting them on. The ear clips are much like ear pieces on eye glasses, but they can be bent into shape to fit your ears once you get them into the sweet spot, you're home free. Trust me. You don't know how good your player can sound...yet.
Customer Review: Criminally unknown Summary: 5 Stars
It is criminal how Koss' portable headphone are not better known. For the price (or really any price) they sound and fit great, more so, when you compare them with either the phones provided with portable equipment or most after market stuff, especially Sony. I've used predecessors to these headphone and the PortaPros for the last seven or eight years, after spending (wasting) money on various Sony headphones available at the local big blue and yellow box.
Anyways, enough ranting. If you want or need a headphone that blocks out ambient sounds, these may not be the best. I wear them bicycling (something I do NOT recommend) and the wind sound is noticeable with these, but then I need to hear what is going on around me. The ambient noise is only really a problem with softer music, the loud and middle stuff comes through just fine.
The fit on these is also different. Because they just fit over your ears, you can't always feel them. This is a pleasant feeling but a bit unnerving if you are used to bigger, heavier headphones. Compared with previous models, these allow you to adjust the fit better. There is a wire through the rubberized earpiece that can be bent to hug your head better. Also, the earpiece is rubberized so it doesn't seem to slip around as easily.
I can't say much about the sound other than they sound good. I listen to them with a iPod shuffle (2nd gen). I'm surprised when I shift from my commuting system of Grado 225's with a HeadRoom Micro amp to these and find the differences to be not that great.
Koss needs to be the brand people turn to when they throw out their manufacture provided headphones.
