Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Koss KSC75 Portable Stereophone HeadphonesCustomer Review: Need Something Cheap To Improve Your Stock Buds? Try These. Summary: 5 Stars
The Koss KSC75 is something that is highly rated on the internet, and most importantly on Amazon. I mean, look at the average review rating. 4.5 stars for 130-something reviews is not bad. I was looking for a pair of headphones to use with my iPod, tried just about every company. Sony's harsh mids, Panasonic's boomy bass, Cyber Acoustics's baseless sound, hope was almost up until these landed in my Recommended For You (By the way, I never use it for music because, for some reason, it's 90% Mariah Carey, and I just think she's alright.) So, I went to RadioShack and picked up a pair. I had no idea what to expect, all these glowing reviews, yet such a low price. Well, I was shocked at how good they sound, how comfy they are, and how overall pleased I am with them!
The sound quality on these headphones is best described as "fun". Compared to my more expensive Sennheiser cans, I still par with those, but for the iPod these deliever a really good sound for the price. The bass is punchy and adequate, the mids are not harsh, and they bring out a bright sound, not harshly, but pleasantly. Across the board I was pretty much impressed with the sound, yet the bass is a bit on the boomy side, and doesn't extend very far down. But, that can be a positive attribute if you are using these with a portable player, since the bass boost function usually just adds on distortation to your sound. It's nice to not have to use the EQ. In general, these headphones produce forward bass, clean mids, and pleasent treble. No doubt these will upgrade your piece of s--t earbuds that come with your MP3 player or CD player. Despite being only 60 ohms, the volume can get loud with these with the supplied volume control, which unlike most, goes from mute to full volume. This will also do a good number on your portable player's battery life since the headphones are this loud.
These headphones are also ergonomically nice. The whole "clip-on" function might take a little while to get you to, but it's a snap once you learn it. The headphones were very comfortable to wear for extended listening, which is suprising since all of the weight hits the top of your ears. For excercising, I'd recommend you try something else, since just walking made these fall off somewhat easily. My purpose is just for sitting at the computer with my iPod, nothing that would even warrant a secure fit. The actual cord is nothing to write home about, four feet in length is good enough for almost all people and is the industry standard. The plug is a gold-plated typical "L" jack plug, therefore the plug won't get worn out if it gets constantly bumped.
The earclips aren't what you'd call the most appealing 'phones in the world. On the Amazon picture the clips look white, yet they are more of a dark gray-ish color. The Sony MDRQ22LP clips are way more appealing, yet these sound better. I guess its the ratio of style:quality. Nah, who am I kidding, do you really care if your headphones have silver and viking blue interchangeable caps? (This paragraph is not to say the MDRQ22's are bad, these are just better.)
Overall, these Koss clips are definitely worth looking into if you need something for your MP3 player, or just a portable headphone and you enjoy the clip style. The sound is good--the extra bass is good for portable players that naturally lack bass tones. THe clips are comfortable, even if they don't look the best. (But is there even such a thing as an appealing clip headphone?). Definitely worth the money! 5 stars.
