Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Klipsch iGroove SXT iPod Sound System (Black)

Customer Review: Incredible sound and value
Summary: 5 Stars

I originally started searching for an iPod alarm clock. My wife and son already have an iHome, and I considered one for myself, but I was never impressed with the sound quality, so I decided to do a little research. After some simple web searches, I found a couple iPod alarm clocks that were rated better than the iHome, at similar prices. One of the items that came up in my search was the Klipsch iGroove SXT. It doesn't have an alarm clock, but it has instant-on capability with the alarm clock feature of every iPod. After thinking about this, it made so much more sense for me. First, there are already 2 digital clocks in our bedroom: my wife's aforementined iHome, and one on our cable TV box. The latter is easily seen from our bed. It just didn't make sense to have yet another clock eating up electricity in the room. Second, I already own Klipsch speakers, and *love* their sound. So I went to BestBuy to check it out. Well it didn't take long to convince me this was the way to go. The sound is rich and bright, just as I like it, and as I expected from Klipsch. I paid $170 for it right then and there. I could probably have save a few $$$ had I shopped around, but I didn't bother. I use this unit primarily as an alarm clock with my iPod, and it suits that function beautifully. However, when needed, this unit can rock our bedroom with the sound quality one would expect from Klipsch. Lastly, the footprint of this unit is quite small: a little wider than an iHome, but not as deep. The black finish looks very compact and elegant on my nightstand. I am extremely impressed and happy with this unit, and would recommend it to anyone shopping for similar units.

Customer Review: A very good product, though I had hoped for a bit more
Summary: 5 Stars

I'm giving this product five stars despite some mild disappointment on my part. Probably like a lot of folks I have been frustrated at not being able to play my iPod over anything other than my earphones. So I got this so that I could listen to music without using my noise isolating earphones. For one thing, I wanted to be able to hear phone calls or hear the door bell ring.

The only problem with this unit is probably my expectations. I was hoping for a unit that would sound nearly as good over the small speakers as it does over my earphones. It doesn't. But that really says more about what I was hoping for rather than what was reasonable. The fact is that the iGroove provides great sound at a relatively small price. Does it rival the sound of a speaker system with a subwoofer? Absolutely not. But for its size it provides quite a wallop.

On the upside this is a very attractive unit and takes up very, very little space on my desk. And it is incredibly easy to use. I come home, take off my earphones, pop my iPod into my iGroove, and go about my business.

My one real complaint is with the remote. The remote is, to be honest, almost useless. The only real use would be if you were sitting a few feet away and wanted to make minimal adjustments. But you can't use it to choose what you listen to apart from skipping to the next song or scooting back to the previous. In fact, I find that I use the iPod wheel instead of the remote.

I definitely recommend this for anyone who wants an easy and convenient way to listen to their iPod over speakers.

Customer Review: klipsch quality with convenience and portability
Summary: 5 Stars

I received this for christmas (yesterday) and immediately pulled it out of the box, plugged it in and started using it. My friend bought it for me knowing i'm a Klipsch fan. That is my favorite speaker. Bose lovers out there, i'm sorry. I know bose is "THE" name but i think Klipsch makes a beautiful speaker for less money, and in general i think they are very versatile.
This tiny unit is true to one of my favorite Klipsch qualities, which i call "fatness". they tend to make a very bright speaker, which i do like as long as there's enough 'fat' sound and depth to support the bright projection of sound. (i know overly bright speakers can tend to lack warmth, even if they are decent quality). For the size, there is a good quality, high volume and generally good fat sound.
Obviously at home, playing my Ipod thru my Onkyo Integra receiver and large Klipsch towers, blows this small speaker system away. That is a given....but this unit also doesn't cost a couple thousand dollars and can go with you to the office or in a back room, etc. I love it. I have an Ihome too, and it's not bad, i've enjoyed it--but it's nothing compared to this in sound quality, and overall sturdy construction. when you dock the ipod it feels secure, it looks sleek and even the remote feels sturdy in the hand.
as an ipod docking system i'd rate it as one of the best ones out there. worth spending a few extra dollars to enjoy sound quality....and in my case, i received as a gift so i didn't spend any dollars. :-)

Customer Review: Very Impressive! Klipsch does it again!!
Summary: 5 Stars

I was searching for a set of 2.0 speakers for events that could fill a room properly and found a pair of Klipsch speakers. Those things are the best ever. So when I went looking for an iPod dock I thought of Klipsch.

I ended up buying the JBL dock instead that was on sale for $50 because I thought JBL was a good brand. I was so wrong!! The speakers sounded like the ones in my MacBook Pros. No bass at all.

So I returned it and ordered this one. I have had it for about a week now and I can say the quality is right up there with my other Klipsch speakers. It has incredible loud, full, rich, clear sound with plenty of bass. Don't waste your money on the Bose system unless you are one of those people that enjoys spending a lot of money.

The only negative thing about this system is that with the most recent Ipod Classics (mine is the 80GB variety) when the EQ is set on the rock setting like I like, or something similar that boosts the bass it can sound a bid muddy and distorted at higher volumes. I found that the perfect EQ for this system is the "Treble Booster" setting at the bottom. The thing sounds perfect now! It is sometimes a pain to have to change the EQ every time I move around, but I mainly just go from my dock to my car with it.

I am very very picky when it comes to speakers, and this system is all that I could imagine in an iPod dock. I use the AUX in for my laptop too. Sounds great!

Customer Review: Huge sound in a small package
Summary: 5 Stars

This speaker system delivers, as other reviewers have commented, truly wide-sounding, bass-rich audio in a really lightweight and portable design. For 20W of power, the system is loud -- it rocks. I mean, really rocks -- for nowhere near the cost of a Bose SoundDock. It's distortion-free even at incredibly high volumes (both MP3 player volume and speaker system volume).

The connectivity's great -- aux input for MP3 players, universal iPod dock for most iPod models with a dock connector -- and there are no synchronization issues to speak of. The S-video out lets you watch video from your iPod on a TV with an S-video input, which is cool, since most HDTVs still have the old S-video jack.

The play/pause, track forward and track backward remote functions only work when an iPod is synchronized with the dock, which is a downside for non-iPod MP3 player users. But volume up, volume down and mute work just fine. The remote takes a CR2032 lithium battery, which lasts quite a while.

The universal adapters that come with this system really are only J-cup supports whose shapes are designed to fit the shape and thickness of the bottom of an iPod, just to let other viewers know -- they're not adapters that make other MP3 players fit a 30-pin iPod connector. They're good, though, for keeping your iPod in place while it's docked.

Overall, this product is fabulous, like every other Klipsch speaker system.
