Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Kingston MobileLite 9-in-1 USB 2.0 Flash Memory Card Reader FCR-MLCustomer Review: Small card reader scores well Summary: 4 Stars
Mobilelite USB 2.0 9-IN-1 Read
This little reader works very well. It is easy to insert and remove cards from the various reading slots in the reader. My computer has recognized the device immediately each time it has been inserted into a USB 2.0 port regardless of whether the ports were built-in or in a hub.
Considering the unit's size and low price, it is made pretty well. Each slot has its own slider to make card removal a simple task. Each white side of the reader is a little swing door to provide access to card slots. The very small plastic catch for one of the doors broke off very quickly despite gentle handling. However, the benefit of this is that the door tends to hold itself open so it is easy to quickly determine which side has the slot I want at any given time. While it would be nice to have the sides labeled by the factory to indicate which slot is where, anyone could make such a label with any of the inexpensive label makers currently on the market.
While the instructions were virtually useless, the device is pretty simple - probably anyone able to figure out how to use anything that stores info on memory cards can also figure out how to use the reader.
It is great that the reader comes with a cap and a nicely made tether cord (very small, but completely ample for its purpose). While it was a bit tedious to attach the tiny split ring to the cap, it was totally worth it to me. Those caps can so easily be misplaced if not tethered that it has become a pet peeve.
All in all, a nicely designed, fully funtional card reader at a very reasonable price.
Customer Review: Handy Summary: 4 Stars
Yes, it is a bit bulky compared to the CE products we're so spoiled with as of late. But it sure does have a lot of convenience to offset that. Too many computers that I operate lack a card reader. This device solves that rather quick and it's still small enough that I can carry it around in my shirt pocket and forget it is there.
I have not had any problems with Windows or Linux mounting cards that have been inserted into the device. It is important, however, to realize that since it has 3 "drives" they may conflict with presently defined Windows drives. For some reason Windows doesn't think twice about assigning some USB mass storage devices the same drive letter as an offline network drive. WEIRD. No fault of the device though.
Currently I use it as a thumbdrive. Throughput (data rate for reads and writes) is on-par with normal thumbdrives. I like that I can by a new card if I need the additional space and slap it in. So in some ways, providing that its mechanical contacts don't wear out, or it doesn't fry itself, this device may be in use for quite some time. Certainly longer than my 8gb thumbdrive that killed itself recently.
It's great for swapping data between cards if you have a card reader on your laptop or PC. It is also nice, with its enclosures, for storing cards not currently in use. Especially those pesky microSD cards. The mechanical mechanism to remove cards can be difficult to use as some have mentioned. However, to me it just means that my cards are securely in place and won't accidentally fall out.
Customer Review: The Most Reliable Reader I've Owned Summary: 4 Stars
This is my third card reader and the most reliable one. The first two were the size of a deck of cards with two slots. More than half of the time, the computer couldn't see the card reader's USB. I had to fight and do weird things to make the card readers wake up. One that I gave to my kid still works and the other one (newer than the one I gave to my kid) doesn't.
I've used this USB card reader for a few months now and the PC recognizes it every time. I don't have to fiddle with it to work. And it's a lovely small size that I can slip it in my little drawer. The other card readers were too big for the drawer.
If you worry about losing the little USB reader, it comes with a keychain ring so you can attach it to something like your keys. Be warned, it's very thin and the ring is very small. Some keychain rings can be too thick for it.
Open the top or bottom white cover to reveal the card slots. One side holds the Micro SD/MMC Micro and the mini SD. The other side holds the larger cards like the SD and MMC cards. The three slots come with a slider -- push the slider to take out the card. You don't have to pull it out.
One negative is opening the top and bottom white covers doesn't come easy. It can also be hard to get the USB top off sometimes and it can only go on one way, not both. Another negative is the sliders -- they feel fragile like they'll break off easily.
Handy little product that does a lot.
Customer Review: Works fine, inexpensive, but latches are hard to open Summary: 4 Stars
How much is there to say about a piece of electronics less than $15 other than whether it worked?
I have a universal card bay on my desktop, but there is no ejector, and the SD cards were a pain to get out, so I ordered this.
It works fine so far. I've only used the SD slot, but have used it on several computers with no issues.
The only complaint is that the cover door on the SD side is very hard to unlatch. Like an old fashion locket, it requires serious fingernails. Strangely different from the other side which opens fine (but that I don't use).
I needed to order one for my dad, and I knew this would drive him batty, so I got him this Sandisk MobileMate SD Plus Memory Card Reader
Customer Review: Good Card Reader, Nice Design, Weak Build Summary: 4 Stars
I bought this item and I have to say that as a card reader it has worked form me. I have used all Mini, Micro and SD cards and all have worked successfully. I have even used HC of 8GB and 16GB and have had no issues (I use to read the HC cards that the internal card reader in the Desktop computer does not read, just put it in the MobileLite and you get it USB).
The only defect I found is that the caps are not of the quality I would have expected. The plastic is very weak and they are easily broken. I have one of this already broken. Even thou the device works well without the caps, it does not look so nice.
