There are some products that fulfill simple needs, but do it in elegant style because of their design. The Kingston MobileLite is one of them. With the profusion of electronic devices so many of us use has come a profusion of memory card formats. For example. just this past weekend, while traveling by car, I received email with critical documents attached that needed to be read literally instantly and responded to. Ever try reading a PDF file on a cell phone moving along st asbout 70 miles per hour? (Fear not: I wasn't driving at the time.)
My cell phone uses a microSD card. My laptop computer will accept SD cards, but not microSD . . . unless . . . you have MobileLite. Slide the microSD in one slot and transfer the files to your laptop computer. Yes, I could have done the same thing with Bluetooth, but it would have taken longer and been far less elegant.
The MobileLite will accept SD, SDHC, MMC, MMCplus, MMCmobile, RS-MMC, microSD, and miniSD, MMC cards in its three bays. Plug it into a USB 1.1 or 2.0 port on your computer and each slot is recognized as a separate drive. The device is about a half-inch thick and may not fit in a slot where you have another connector next to it, so Kingston thoughtfully provides a short USB cable.
All three card bays are independent and each has a clever ejector machanism. You can data between cards loaded on the device. Thus, you could transfer data from your microSD card to your SDHC card mounted in another MobileLite bay.
The design is very funtional and aesthetically pleasing. The top and bottom card bay covers flip open. (When the device is brand new, it takes a surprising amount of pressure to flip the covers open.) The USB port is protected by a plastic cover. Kingston thoughtfully provides a small lanyard with a metal ring that will keep the USB port cover from getting separated from the unit.
If you have a variety of electronic devices that use different cards, you definitely want to add the Kingston MobileLite. It is inexpensive and devilisly versatile. If you're one who travels with a bunch of eletronic gizmos, you definitely want this little gem in your travel kit.
