Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Kingston DataTraveler 100 - 8 GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive DT100/8GB

Customer Review: Great product!
Summary: 5 Stars

The Kingston DataTraveler is without a doubt, the best USB Flash drive I have ever owned. Not only does it have an absurd amount of storage capacity (8 GB) for less than $20, it has the BEST mechanism for covering the connector (a slide knob on the side that extends and extracts the connector into the plastic case) so I have no more plastic caps to keep up with!! I plugged it into my Dell laptop running Windows XP and it was instantly found by the OS and all of the drivers were installed so I could start using it immediately. My PanDigital digital picture frame also recognized it instantly and it works GREAT... no hiccups, glitches, issues, etc. I LOVE IT!! I have every digital picture I have taken over the past 3 years on the stick and use it primarily in my digital picture frame since I filled the internal memory and previous USB sticks were not big enough.

Customer Review: Good Quality, Large Capacity Flash Drive
Summary: 5 Stars

This flash drive is a little larger legnthwise than my previous flash drive, though that is not an issue with me. It is a great price for 8 GB of space ($50-70 for 8 GB at Wal Mart and similar stores) and I like that the USB port is retractable so there are no caps to be lost.
The only thing I miss about my old 1 GB drive is that it had a bar on the outside that indicated how much space was used, this drive does not have that, you have to plug it into the computer to find out.
I like that there isn't a ton of software to install with it that I do not need, just the simple storage space, which is great.
It has no key chain ring, which some people don't like, but I don't travel with it that way so it was no issue for me. I think it's a great drive for the price, easy to use with a lot of storage space, perfect for a college student.

Customer Review: Excellent, High Speed USB Stick
Summary: 5 Stars

As a Mac user, I have more than once been frustrated by the slow speed with which Mac OS X writes to Windows formatted USB sticks. A family member of mine had a Windows formatted DataTraveler DT100/8GB stick which we used to transfer some photos from my Mac to her PC. I was amazed at the speed with which my Mac wrote to the stick. I did some research afterwards and found that the DT100 in particular has about a 40% higher write speed than most USB sticks in its class. I purchased one right away, and have been very pleased with it. It is fast, very high capacity, and its retracting USB connector makes it very convenient to carry around. When formatted for Mac OS X, it is without doubt the fastest memory stick I have. Highly recommended.

Customer Review: Just a flash drive
Summary: 5 Stars

I've been using this thing for a few months with incident. I carry it in my pocket with a small knife and some change. It gets plugged into different computers at least twice per day. No problems. I still back it up regularly though.

It comes with no installed crapware, hence no little surprise the first time you plug it in. The last time I got hit with an autoinstall off a USB flash drive I had to download yet more software to uninstall that special gift. I absolutely do not trust any of the autoinstalling crapware programs. Instead, I run truecrypt because it's free and, most of all, trustworthy. Regardless, I keep work files on my 4GB truecrypt partion. No problems.

Customer Review: Awesome!

What I needed: Cheap, portable storage!
What I got: Exactly what I needed!

For those that have used a Sandisk Cruzer, this is very similar. It has a wierd area for a lanyard on the back (none of my current keychains work, but I just keep it in my pocket). It also has a green LED that lights up under the King's face when you plug it in. Decent write speeds...

At work, I downloaded the Windows 7 beta, Yellow Dog Linux, and Fedora Linux ISO files and put them on this thing and took it home. With my work computer (vista home basic) I think it copied at 70 MB/s... I love it, it's so worth the price.

Highly recommended.
