Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Kingston 19-in-1 USB 2.0 Flash Memory Card Reader FCR-HS219/1

Customer Review: What the Doctor Ordered!
Summary: 5 Stars

The technology on my desktop, even though it is less that two years old, is behind the curve. (Who am I kidding - it was behind the curve before it came off the assembly line after I ordered it.) I had the multiple card reader installed as part of the package and it worked fine - until the HD cards started showing up - then - No Joy! Looking around for another Kingston product was my first choice, something that wasn't expensive, that would read the new HD cards as well as be backward compatible with the older card formats. This one is it. Inexpensive, easy to use, will read and do everything the product details say it will. Hence, all the stars. Good value. Does what it promises. Gets me updated just a bit more. And now I can enjoy all the movies and pictures I took of my beautiful grandchildren.

Customer Review: Makes life easier on Mac and PC alike
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this for my iMac. I wanted a flexible multi-card reader and this fit the bill exactly. Works fast and easy on Mac and PC. I only use the SD and micro SD slots. So far, I haven't had any problems. Standard SD, SDHC, and several brands micro SD from various cell phones. It has made my life so much easier. I use it on all my computers, even the ones with with built in SD readers because it's so versatile. The slots recess when not in use. Not sure why this was designed, since it still leaves a huge opening in the front for dust to invade. It's more cosmetic than anything. It also comes with a USB extension cord, which I keep permanently attached to one of the back USB ports on my iMac. I have not experienced any issues inserting or removing cards. Definitely money well spent.

Customer Review: Four new drives!
Summary: 5 Stars

The Kingston FCR-HS219/1 USB 2.0 Hi-Speed 19-in-1 Media Reader works just fine: plug it in your computer and you will find four new drive letters in windows explorer. Not only can you copy files between your memory card and your hard drive but also between different cards. The only -minor- complaint is that you have to find which letter corresponds to which card by trial and error. Also I think that the mini SD and micro SD slots share the same letter, although I could not test this since I did not have a mini SD card handy. Product documentation is minimal and not very user friendly. Its small size, short USB cable and driver less installation make this ideal for laptops and for carrying around. The extension USB cable allows you to connect it to hard to reach ports on back of desktops.

Customer Review: very happy
Summary: 5 Stars

For as much of a techie that I am (built my own PVR and home network entertainment system) I have never bothered purchasing a card reader. I just plugged the card into the built in port on my printer (not usb 2.0) and walked off as it copied 100 pictures in about 18 minutes. Since I was buying a usb hub, I figured I would grab one of these as well due to the cost and possibly getting a new printer without a port. Wow, 100 pictures now copy in less than 2 minutes. No complaints about it at all, thought the only port I use right now is the sony card from my sony camera. Used it about 6 times so far, no issues, well worth the money if you need a quick offload speed...such as when you are leaving for a family reunion and just remembered that you forgot to offload the zoo pictures!

Customer Review: Works As It Should
Summary: 5 Stars

I purchased this a few weeks ago when I noticed my camera's USB cable was missing. Since my (older) computer does not have any card slots, I bought this. I believe it is a 19-in-one card reader so one can read many, many different types of cards. It has worked as it should and so far I've not really had any problems.

I did try to insert my digital camcorder's memory card into this, but for some reason I could not get those images/videos to load into my computer. I still have to do some reading, as I may be missing a step. What I probably have to do is read the software information that came with the video cam. But other than that, it reads and uploads all my regular digital camera's memory cards, no problem.
