Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Kingston 19-in-1 USB 2.0 Flash Memory Card Reader FCR-HS219/1

Customer Review: Hardware Works Well, BUT...
Summary: 5 Stars

The Kingston card reader is functioning well thus far - once I was able to get it to work!

I purchased this to "replace" a crappy Dell 19-in-1 reader that they installed with my computer. What junk.

I'm keeping the Kingston connected, dangling from it's short USB cord.

Documentation is non-existent. Nada. And until you go to the Kingston Website and download and install their driver/software, this little marvels just sits and does nothing.

It *will* work once it has a driver installed on your machine (the reader and your computer must agree on which theoretical "drives" your various card slots will occupy), but until you spend a few minutes readying things, the reader is useless.

The extension USB is a nice touch, as the built-in cord is itty-bitty. Overall, the reader physically "feels" a bit flimsy and fragile, so I wouldn't use it for anything other than light-duty use. But then again, look at the low price!

If you need something for a commercial application, i.e., with every-day, all-day use, I'd probably seek something else.

DEFINITELY recommended without reservation.

Customer Review: Great little reader...
Summary: 5 Stars

I purchased a 4GB SDHC card to go with my new Nikon digital SLR only to find my trusty old multi-format reader didn't work with it. I went to a few BIG BOX stores seeking something to use without luck... they are still relatively rare. After searching the web I decided to buy the Kingston reader. It is a great little reader. I current only have cameras that use SD, Micro SD, SDHC, and Memory Sticks... all these and more are read rapidly.

The reader comes with a very, very short USB cord attached, but Kingston also included a USB extension cord that enabled me to plug into the rear ports of my desktop's CPU with ease. The reader's sliding case allows you to keep cards plugged into the unit while traveling seems awkward at first, but is a really cool idea. Using "My Computer", the Nikon's SDHC card's data appeared on my screen labeled as a "Nikon data port"... very convenient. I have only used the reader for simple single card data retrieval and it worked flawlessly. I am very happy with the fast service the vendor supplied and the operation of this neat device. Highly recommended!

Customer Review: New Camera old computer
Summary: 5 Stars

Last month I purchased a Nikon D5000 camera and picked up a high speed HDSD card to use with it just to find out that my computer, being a Sony, didn't have an SD port. The solution for this problem came in the form of this "Kingston 19-in-1 USB 2.0 Flash Memory Card Reader."
When I purchased it I thought this reader had a flap that closed over the front of the case but that did not turn out to be so. However the insertion ports do slide back into the casing which will allow you to leave a card in place without the risk of it getting hit, bent or broken. This is a nice feature if you have little children (oh how little fingers love to touch what they shouldn't be touching).
The reader works great, plug it in and use, it is that simple. It works flawlessly with my high speed HDSD card. I have had no problem getting the cards in or out of the reader however I have not tried a micro card.
I would highly recommend this reader. Nice price, functions very well, has a short cord that works well with my laptop and an extension USB cable so it is easy to move to my desktop.

Customer Review: Fast, Cheap - What more could you ask for?
Summary: 5 Stars

I had high expectations for this card reader because of some flash memory benchmark tests I read through at Rob Gailbraith's website (http://www.robgalbraith.com - "CF/SD" on the left menu and then select Card-Computer in the drop down menu). I was mostly interested in the CF reading ability for my DSLR.

According to the site, it appears to be the fastest/$ CF reader tested for many newer cards. It even supports UDMA cards (but not 300x Transcends). It offers very fast speeds, and it generally only bested by FireWire 800 card readers, which are generally about 3+ times more expensive. Plus you must have a FireWire 800 port (not regular FireWire 400). Not many computers come stock with FW800, and a PCI/PCI-E card is at least $40 I think. Therefore, you'd have to pay at least $80 more to get somewhat faster performance if you have a fast enough card (200x or higher).

I also like the design of the short USB cable for carrying along in a laptop back without worrying about wires.

Customer Review: This product rocks!!
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this to replace a sandisk card reader that I was disappointed to find broken, though that reader lasted 5 years. This reader will be an amazing replacement that is for sure.

It can read any type of card that you could feasible still be using today. I have seen some mixed reviews on the fact that the whole reader can slide back into the reader's casing. I don't know why you wouldn't LOVE this feature!! I can put my SDHC card into the reader and slide the reader into its casing and it offers protection from accidentally bumping the card and breaking it in the reader or ejecting the card in the middle of data transfer causing the card to potentially need reformatting (say bye to all your data) and you can leave your memory card in the reader and just have it on your desk without fear of damage just to store it.

Overall the price is high for what it is but because of a cool design, nice features, and the ability to read any type of media I highly recommend this to you!!
